Getting a sunroof fitted

Hi guys

Most of you'd know I've got the 05 model. As you might know already, the pre-05 models did were not able to get the factory sunroof option as a factory option due to problems meeting the ADR etc apparently because of its structural stability.

Anyway, the 05 models seem to have this problem(?) addressed. I didnt really get the factory sunroof as I didnt like it that time and it kinda looked weird coming from a rather clean sunroof option from my integra.

Now after the kit i've installed i think it would go well with the sunroof and am exploring my options atm.

Has anyone here, or anyone you know gotten an aftermarket sunroof on the rx8? Would it void any warranties if I had it installed?

Looking for options and need expert assistance - so all constructive input is welcome.

kunal, as I understand it, the only reason we didn't get a sunroof from the start is because getting ADR compliance for the whole RX-8 range would have been longer, delaying the car's intro to the market. I don't think there is any particular structural issue although obviously there are parts of the roof you can cut, and parts you can't. I suspect a good sunroof supplier should be able to get details of this.

I recall there have been earlier threads about suitable sunroofs in this sub-forum, or maybe on the .com.au site

it's a poor idea to get an aftermarket sunroof installed on the car. Look closely at your roof, you'll notice it's not perfectly flat, it has two curved areas.

Personally, I think the "double bubble" roof is one of the best design features on the whole car. fitting a sunroof (aftermarket or factory) should be a criminal offence (IMHO ).

I will not weaken the car by putting a sunroof in.

You tend to make a sunroof that is too big for the car's design.

I will call the roof on the RX-8 a moon roof rather than a sun roof.

I thought I remembered an aussie forum member getting one fitted and did a search. Kimba had one fitted a while back by a company called Webasto who apparently make/supply the Mazda RX8 OEM sun roof. Cost him $1300 and it looks like they did a pretty good job. Check out the following link for more info.

AWESOME! Woo thansk for pointing that thread out.

Looks like I'll be getting the 700 series =) $2100 isnt too bad imho. I've sent off a PM to Gibbo re: his install and how it went; hopefully he'll be able to confirm certain things before I go ahead.

I paid a visit to their workshop in Artarmon/St Leonards about 2 years ago and was impressed by their workmanship. I also thought the roof good value.
