Good place (in Melourne) to get RE55s?

Hi Guys,
I'm wondering where do you get your R-spec tyres? I'm interested in 245/40/18 size and in Melbolurne.

ps. I'm also wondering how much do you normally pay for Bridgestone RE55s?

Thanks.

Donellans in burwood hwy (or was that maroondah hwy :/). Mention (I think) the Nissan skyline club and they give you a discount. But make sure you check manufacturing date as I believe they import them themselves.

Thanks Andrew ... I forgot that the SAU boys use the same size.

ps. Though, I did call around and seems like most places can get them these days and $410 (per tyre) is a good price.

Yeah thats pretty much what I thought too, ie everyone can get them and get them at the same price.

Why RE55s?

Why RE55s?

I've used them for a while now, they work, and give me a good reference (in regards to previous times). Also not everyone has R-spec tyres in this size.

Besides that I usually get 10 - 11 track-days out of a set (but that's probably an indication that I'm not too hard on them instead of that they last long).

Also they are usually cheaper than most other tyres like this.

ps. I see you're using R888 at the moment ... they're supposed to be pretty good. How much did you get them for?

Please note. You will wince when you see David turn up in his bald tyres. Most of us will not be brave enough to use the RE55s for 11 track days. Mine lasted 7.

I 'heard' today you can get Dunlop DZ03G in medium compound for under $400/corner ATM. That would have to be the pick

I am going to get latest pricing on the R888 as I am due, but I am curious if a 9" +43 offset rim would fit your car.

True. I do run them down to the last mm of rubber. Also I swap them around from corner to corner.

Roll the guard. Not sure how low you are and what neg camber you have?

Rubbing front or rear?

I rolled the guards, still scrubbed,so I had to take out plastic things in wheel arch, still scrubbed, so I had to take an angle grinder to the little flaps that stick out under there. Wide offset and wide tyres=nightmare!

I have 18x9" rims now and had 19x10.5" rims previously both +43 and had no issues. And the 19's had 265 tyres on them.

Thrust me they were scrubbing. They are not now. Car has only been lowered about 2cm. I saw another rx8 with 19inch rims and 275 tyres the day before I got the car and he said he had no issues. As I said I am not sure how the offsets really go but is a 38 offset further out than a 43 or is it the other way around?

+43 is further in.

My track rim is a 18 x 8.5 +32 and had rubbing on the 245 tyres. So I cut the guard slightly and roll it a bit. No rub now. I am 15mm lowered.

Offsets are funny. Its the opposite of what most people think. Smaller the number the more you are pushing the wheel out from the car. In affect when you look at the wheels from front on, you are increasing the width between the 2 wheels.

Yeah was my first real set of aftermarket rims and was sort of taking a gamble with the offset. They look good, but looks and functionality dont always go hand in hand..

David, offer is still there if you want to give it a go. I am just about to buy some of this stuff to see if I can get some life back into them. Curious if anyone else has had any experience with it.

Cheers

Andrew
