Graphic Skills Racing debuts new car
Owner/Driver Scott Karandrews along with Phil Laird from Graphic Skills Racing debuted their new car at the 2005 Winternationals yesterday at Willowbank.
The car is a full chassis EL Falcon with a 20B single turbo. Just one turbo, but a rather big one.
The engine was only started for the first time on Monday night, and I was lucky enough to be there for that. The engine had not been "prepped" and was a straight "import". The motor proved to be already shagged at the licencing performed at Gladstone on Wednesday, required as this was a new car/driver combo.
Late on Thursday evening, after Phil finished prepping other customers engines and gearboxes for the meet, he went about stripping down an existing 20B engine, and prepping it "properly". I arrived at the GSR workshop at about 7:00am Friday morning, as the engine was nearing the completeion of the installation, after an "all-nighter" on the re-build.
I was fortunate enough to crew for Scott and Phil yesterday (Friday)
The car was not started for the first time untill about lunch time Friday, as various plumbing and finishing touches were still being addressed in the Willowbank pits.
Late in the day, Scott finally got his first run, after missing the morning practice.
Here is a video I took of the cars first pass...

8.84 @ 145 and the team was pretty excited. 1/2 track MPH was 119. The clutch was gone, and Scott took her for a full pass with the engine right on the limiter due to the slippage. Also to note, the wastegate was adjusted to the minimum boost, and the 2nd throttle body was blanked over.
The reaction from the crowd showed they appreciated the results for a first ever run, in what amounted to a sucessful shakedown.
I was unable to attend today , however a new clutch has been fitted. Phil TXT'ed me earlier to let me know Scott ran an 8.04 at 179 today.
Here is another photo of Scott doing his burnout yesterday, found on the Ausrotary forums www.ausrotary.com.
Well done to Scott along with Phill, and all the others who pitched in to help.
Cheers,
Hymee.

The funniest thing was for the first run, before an oil down re-arranged things, Scott was lined up to race his 20B powered Falcon against a Mazda RX-4 powered by a booming V8 LOL! Fairdinkum.
