Hands Free Mobile Phone
We have had (the same) hands free kit in our last two cars and we are about to get this installed into the RX-8.. There does not seem to be much room..
Has any one installed this in their RX-8? Any photos of the handset location?
Thanks
Adrian
PS I know the phone aerial will probably rob me of 3 BHP and 10Km/hr top speed, but it improves the range (and clarity) of the phone considerably...

Adrian, there is a special plate that you can buy that fits onto the mounts for the stereo so that you do not need to drill holes.
The comapny is dashmount australia. Their web address is www.dashmount.co.uk (They are in perth but their parent co is uk based).
I actually have one you can have for $30 + postage if you want, I went for a blue tooth kit and never ended up using it. I have it packaged with instructions if you want.

I fitted a THB-Bury kit to my car, distributed in Australia by Point to Point Technology. My handset is mounted to the left of the CD player, using the dashmount Gibbo mentioned.
There are two advantages to this system. The first is that it uses replaceable handset cradles, which cost about $100-$150 depending on the phone, so it is easy to change if you get, or have, other handsets. The second is that it uses an antenna that sticks to the inside of the windscreen -- very neat and unobtrusive. The mike was plumbed up and comes out just near the sunglasses compartment. I have a Bluetooth cradle, which I use around town (always in and out of the car), and a proper cradle for trips, allowing the phone to be charged, and extra range through the antenna (one of the disadvantages of Bluetooth). Am very happy with it.
But, as I have said before, in 2005 -- where most countries have laws against handhelds in the car without a car kit -- it is pretty outrageous that telephony isn't plumbed in. FFS, a Bluetooth addition to the stereo, plus mike, shouldn't cost more than $100.....I fell about laughing the other day, when a mate told me the integrated phone option in the new Landrover Discovery cost $7,000....FFS! :p
