Never ceases to amaze me how you can post clear evidence of before and after effects from a mod and those who have obviously forked out for it will defend it till the cows come home. Must hurt to have to admit Mazda got that part of the car right in the first place and all you've done is add rice instead of performance.
Nice numberplate BTW NT.

Interesting story. There was one question on the thread that I'd be interested to hear the answer to, and that is whether the DVI vacuum control hose was, or may have been, disconnected the whole time?

Funny how we choose to discuss that thread in another one

But look at it this way - taking the duct off and going to VFAD was worth 20km/h top end, or 9% more. VDI gave 5km/h, or 2% more. I'm struggling to see that if he connect the VDI first the results would be the other way around. Also, when you see how much frontal area the ram air duct actually takes from behind the grill, you can pretty easily assume it was the cause of the o-heating problem. Part of the solution to that would be to drill/cut out the rest of the grill that is blanked off, although on second thoughts, there is lots of bumper/impact stuff behind there from memory anyways.
Cheers,
Hymee.

Agreed.
I have no quibble with RB stuff either and wasn't trying to be specific or denigrate their products.
Rather, I was commenting on the general approach when this kind of stuff is posted. Rarely do you see a "thanks for the info, I'll take it on board" kind of response. It's usually a blunt, "no, that can't be right. What about this, etc, etc". The responses to Kunz' dyno results come to mind.

Thanks. The logic of what you say is fine. It reinforces to me something that Jon Waterhouse said about the intake side of the Renesis having been really worked on by Mazda, and that there was not much to be gained in fiddling with it.

Are you questioning Kunz's dyno figures......or are you questioning my scepticism of their accuracy?

I'm questioning neither and thought I made it clear I was talking generally.
I have no problem with questions being raised. It's just that the manner in which it's often done doesn't exactly encourage people to volunteer the kind of real world results some people have discovered when comparing mod to stock.
It's seems to be akin to heresy for someone to post something that doesn't accord with the accepted wisdom, irrespective of the fact that the motive was simply to share what has been observed.
I wonder how many people have not bothered posting something because they don't want to get harassed about it?

Permission denied. LOL ![Smilie](https://www.rx8club.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
I tried to be carefull not to denegrate RB's products too. But I hope everyone agrees that the reason they come to this place is to share information such as this. If one were to study the internet for my long time believes on the effects of Ram Air, one would know where I stand.
Here is another fact... The RB intake has holes on the back-side of it (i.e. opposite the opening). I'll let others argue about what that does...

Revolver, I'm a lot like you.
I'm just searching for the truth. That should be abundantly clear to anyone who reads my recent posts!
On the point of exhaust systems in general, I probably have you at a slight advantage in that I'm a fervent reader of the technical areas of this forum. It has long been clear that there is bugger all to be found hp wise in modifying the RX-8 exhaust system.
Hence, my scepticism.

Otherwise, you're still answering a personal criticism that wasn't made. Relax.
Sorry, Hymee - will shut up now.

Ah yes.....a minor error there on my part. The Judge lawyer is the nice guy, not the other lawyers!!
No worries. For what it's worth (and just to have the final word!), Kunz himself was surprised at the dyno figures he got......

Happy Birthday once again NT Rotorhead.....I must catch up with you and check out your Ric Shaw sway bars in person.
Cheers,
Gomez.

Actually I was on a night shift the night of my birthday, so had dinner out the following night. and it was Thai hehe
No probs Gomez, I'm sure we'll meet soon and you can have a good sticky at the swaybars and springs. Very happy with them BTW, I think the car looks great sitting a tad lower and in the skid pan the other day I was very happy with how the car was handling in the wet.

The coolant light indicates low coolant level, but not high temp. The temperature needle indicates high coolant temp. I've seen both.
First photo - 41deg OAT and 150km/h - check out the temperature needle!
Second photo - After several excursions towards the nasty side of 'H', I got a coolant light and this was the result. The low coolant light stayed on even after the temperature needle had returned to normal.
(You can just see my car bra too in the second photo).
Sorry for the delay but the work computer network crashed in the middle of me trying to posting this 5 days ago. (NT Rotor head I'm sure you know what I mean!)

Hi Wildcard, yeah I remember how reliable the work network is hehe.
Ok gotcha on the indications. Funny thing was that my temp needle didn't vary much, yet I got the low coolant light when sitting on 150kph in the hottest part of the day. It went out when I backed off to 120kph. I repeated it a few times just to see if it was a one off. At the next servo I had a look and the reservoir wasn't below the low mark or anything, although not far off, and there was no indications of a leak or that the coolant had been overflowing (not that you would see it, I think the overflow is piped out to the bottom of the car). Obviously just enough had overflowed as I imagine the coolant expanded quite a lot due to the heat. I topped it up anyway and didn't get the light again.....
How's Tindal going? enjoying all that airspace to yourself? Not like the east coast huh?
