i've only posted i think once and that was a while ago, but i've been on these forums everyday for close to a year now. Getting an RX8 soon hopefully by the end of the financial year and hopefully by then Hymees supercharger will be out but i do have one important question...does it have a button to turn it on and off? cause i won't be the only driver.

It is called the trottle. The manifold vacuum controls a bypass valve that essenitally removes the boost at light throttle (i.e. cruise). The blower is still spinning ready to give "full boost" when you mash the throttle... the manifold vacuum is lost therefore the bypass valve closes. Zoom Zoom - combining the unique sound of a rotary, and the whine of a positive displacement blower :D

The blower spins all the time as it is always driven the belt (not like mad max's right?)
Although that would be funny, you could flick the switch and change UP a gear like in the movies!!

Hymee, do you use the bypass valve when cruising to improve driveability or economy?
I wonder why you wouldn't want some pressure at low revs as well to at least make up for the drain of the supercharger and perhaps add some power for low rev takeoffs.

I had the chance a while ago to drive a Honda Prelude Vtec with an Eaton supercharger which had a similiar bypass valve. The kit came from a company in the states that do them for mx5's.

It was great to drive. When you accelerated and thus wanted the boost it was there. Once you were at cruising speed and don't need boost it was gone, but as soon as you put your foot on the throttle more the bypass would shut and bang instant power. There was no noticeable lag time at all. It was instant.

You really do not know the bypass valve is there and working.

The great thing with this setup is there is only boost running through the engine when you need it and not when you don't. To my mind this is of great advantage as it lessons the strain on the engine. Under boost 10%-20% of the time is far more reliable that 100% of the time I would think. Better for fuel too!

This is why Hymee's kit excites me so much. It's a very good solution!
