Hesitation on acceleration

I seemed to have developed a problem with my car today. The acceleration is no longer smooth and linear.

It seems to slow down when the tacho hits 5000 rpm. Sometimes it even feels jerky. There is an obvious problem with the fuel delivery system. The power seems OK up to 4000 rpm but there is a distinct lack of power past this mark.

It also seems Ok in normal driving however, on take off the problem emerges.

I have the car booked in on Wednesday for a new wiring harness for the airbags so I will raise the issue with the dealer.

Not sure why you are sure it is "an obvious problem with the fuel delivery system." Symptom sound more like a colapsed CAT clog problem.

well one day turn on the car didnt warm it up drove it out try to take it in 1st to 8000rpm and when it reached 5000rpm and stalled the only time it has done it maybe it was because it was freezzing cold outside and the car was not warm. but look into to both issues

Isnt this where the 2ndary port opens up? If it was a CAT then I reckon you would be getting a CEL. Haven't I also read that a dirty 02 sensor can do this as well?

Bad plugs can do this too and a blockage in the exhaust system..

However, something in the fuel system seems more likely as the first two tend to happen over time (except a collapsed cat - I guess)....

This is vaguely reminiscent of the kind of thing some of us have experienced when fuel levels have gotten low while tracking the car. A sudden loss of power and a jerky kind of feeling.

Were your fuel levels low when you experienced this?

I had just under half a tank of fuel when the problem first occurred. It happened again today on feeeway driving. this the engine check light flashed as well. This happened about 4 times on the straight drive driving at normal speed with the engine revving at around 3000rmp. Each time I felt the car loosing speed.

I am taking the car to the dealer this afternoon who will keep the car overnight to look at this problem and fix the air bag.

i think L&L experienced similar thing not long ago, and it was the plugs...

I had new plugs put in when the did the hard start change over.

Check engine light flashing usually indicates a misfire condition... bad fuel, plugs or a problem with the eccentric shaft position sensor could be the cause.

The problem seems apparent when the engine is under load. It revs freely otherwise.

Coils could be bad. Is known problem .

Hopefully the dealer can see a pending DTC and this may help indicate the problem (if you don't already have a CEL).

The problem has gone for now. It turned out to be a debarcle from the dealers. I dropped the car off the day before so they will have the time to look into the codes however it seems that the message some how never got through to the mechanics.

The next day they went straight to changing the wiring harness. To do this they disconnected the battery. Apparently by doing this they have wiped out the codes. They we do not know what actually happened.

Since picking up the car it appears to run fine for now and they have not done anything as they could not diagnose the problem.

It does not make sense to me but I cannot complain about anything at the moment.

^^^anyone else smell something fishy here??

Guess if the car is fine and it didn't cost you anything you've got nothing to worry about but I'd like to know what they really did.

Nope it's not fishy. Customer service at that dealership has been diving over a period of months. Everytime I take my car to that dealer complaining of a fault I have to take it back at least once to get it addressed because they don't look at the fault or because they don't have parts. I'm seriously thinking about changing dealers.

Not at all - this is where we should share experiences with dealer service both good and bad.

I know what you're talking about sco - I've had to push to get some stuff done, especially rattles, etc. They say they're gone when they're not (and no, Timbo, I'm not just talking about 'THE rattle' here ).

SKC,

You could always have gone for a really long drive to get a mate with sCANalyser to check it. Heck, he even might have helped develop the thing. Pity I live so far away. (is that your mower I hear?) LOL!

I was talking about Aspley. They're nice enough.. always recognise me and say hello and have a good customer lounge and their prices are good. But, they never fix something first timee (even as simple as replacement engine cover grommet which is a known problem and cheap as chips to hold in stock)... even if it is reported at the time of booking a service. I live close to the centre of town so it's a fair bit out of my way to go there. They may be a victim of their own success... too much business resulting in resourcing problems thus their inability to fix faults first time. I know of one member who took his car back 4 times to get a reported fault fixed. It's a bloody inconvenience I can do without.

Last service I insisted on getting both recalls done as this was prior to Wakefield. I got a letter from Mazda saying the control arm recall wasn't done. When I rang them they said no it hadn't been done. Luckily I have checked it myself because of the availability of US TSBs so it's not a worry, but it is not good enough (especially given it is a 5 second job to check the stamp on the part while it us up on the hoist). What if I wasn't an informed owner... I'd be risking my safety because of their incompetence.

Thanks for the offer mate.

I would have asked you Hymee but, I did not get a flashing light until the next day as I was driving the kids to school. After dropping them off I decided to carry on to the dealership. I had all sorts of worse case scenarios running through my head as I drove there but the service counter did not think it was a big deal. They said they could do much and asked me to come back that afternoon as they would have a loan car ready as I was already booked in for the next day they would let me keep the loan car overnight and look into the engine check light that afternoon.

This is where things went wrong. Yes, this is the Aspley dealership. It took them 4 goes before the airbag issue was sorted. It seems the car has more visits to the dealership for issues than service. SCO is right, about them taking forever to fix problems. However, if you are persistant your problem will be fixed.

I don't know how they compare to other dealers. As you hear stories of dealers charging more for regular service,etc.
