Hi Everyone, New Member from Chch
#101
May be able to come out depending if I go to the races or not. If I do, please do something different then heading up to sign of the kiwi and over the hill to governors lol.
Im sure the guys would love to listen to my noisy beast again haha

Another good meet up, stoked for the chance to meet a couple more members. No pics this time (before someone asks haha) but hopefully next time get everyone along and make a day or afternoon of it.

Good to meet some of the Chch crew.
Me, Toshy and Bremma went for a cruise out to the Wheatsheaf Tavern past Governors Bay, then home via Gebbies Pass and Summit Rd to the Sign of the Kiwi.
Was a good drive. The boys managed to scare a few years off the lives of some cyclists and Sunday drivers on the very narrow Summit Rd We kept it pretty honest though. Should have taken a few photos up the hill, but having too much fun to stop.
Maybe catch up over the Xmas break for another meet.

I tend to go away on courses during the winter, and I like to take the time to do a few tweaks here and there. It doesn't seem worth paying for reg when I'm only going to be able to use it for about three weeks out of six months. My Triumph also gets parked up and generally I do a tear down/rebuild of that too.

BTW, in Christchurch Al Marsh is the guy to use for any rx-8 repairs/work. His shop used to rebuild rx-8 engines for Mazda when they popped under warranty. Straight up and very knowledgeable.

Sweet ride. I guess when you have a Triple you don't need a fast 8 I'm working on a café racer at the moment - need to get it back on the road before I take the car off the road to install the Greddy turbo that's sitting in my garage. Life's too busy!
#112
Yeah, with an 11 second bike sitting in street trim, I just use the 8 to carry things or take girls out. Or my mighty Corolla if there's too much stuff to fit in the 8. When the cafe is done bring it down to Smash Palace on bike nights, always a good crowd and I try get in there when I can.

Sorry to dredge up a slightly old post, but as I'm still on forum noob probation, I can only reply to threads.
I'm intently searching for an RX-8 and I think I've found it... provided the compression test on Tuesday gives a good result. It's a 2006 stormy blue 6 speed; only it's imported from the UK, instead of Japan so I don't know if you can call it an 'S type' like they have.
So is there any kind of RX-8 club either formal or informal happening in chch? I'd love to meet some other owners.

Welcome. I'd be pretty careful about an ex British 8 though as they use the salt on the roads which of course is a drama for rust. I guess it depends on the cost. Good move buying the 06 though, any dramas were sorted by then.

All I know is that it has a little button to change between miles/km and the indicator stalk is on the other side.
#118
I'll throw you a PM.

hello people im a new member in chch. looking at buying my first RX-8. been looking on trademe for awhile but if any1 knows of a tidy low ks 8 I would be happy to have a look at it first.
would also be good to meet other locals with 8s.
thanks.

I wouldn't argue with that, it looks like a good one although I'm always a bit twitchy about English cars as they use salt on the roads. I'm selling my 06 on trade me at the moment. I'm going rotary free until we sell the house and move into the smaller place.if it works out the way I want I'll replace it with one of the last R3s. Anyway, it's straight and unmolested as I'm too old and lazy to stuff around with what is already a great car. Cheers.

Check out Bremma's car (click his profile on page 1 of this thread and PM him). He's been selling the blue beast for about 4 months now. It's a real nice example - best seen in the flesh.
Word of warning when buying an 8, ALWAYS get a compression test done. Al Marsh can do this and give you a rough indication of how long until the engine will require a rebuild. He's straight up, and my first choice of rotary guys in Chch (by a long way).
Shout out when you have an 8 and we can arrange a meet/cruise.

Also, if you're OK with a manual, get the 6 speed (high power) model as like most of us you'll find it slightly underpowered from the start, and the resale value will likely be better.

I was putting some oil in my car today when another RX-8 owner came over to introduce himself. He is very keen to find other 8 owners in Christchurch.
As a way of getting in touch and organising some cruises, I've started a Facebook group... if you're in chch and have an RX-8 JOIN UP!

Cheers Jimmy. She's still on TM at the mo but not really priced to sell, I'm happy to hang onto it at the moment and am looking forward to any future meet ups/cruises. Also saving hard to do bits n pieces to the 7 in the not distant future.
