HKS Exhaust Fitted!

HKS Exhaust Fitted!
Just received my HKS exhaust today and needless to say, immediately fitted it onto the car.
Did it with the help of a few work colleagues on a hoist.
Still took three quarters of an hour though (the damn rubber hangers for the standard exhaust were a bastard to get off).
Whilst the exhaust was off, I decided to start the car and give it a few revs.
God it sounds f##king awesome! Thought I was in my cousins RX4 for a moment there.
Anyway, HKS system went on and I was a little disappointed at first because it still sounds stock when idling.
But when I took it for a drive, man did it sound fantastic in the higher rev range!
It's fairly loud inside the cabin but doesn't drone at all, but it must really be loud outside the car because it certainly turned a lot of heads.
HKS reckon it gains some 9Hp but very difficult to tell over the noise coming from the pipes. Certainly feels more torquey.
All in all, I just wanted to share this with you guys since it is probably the most expensive exhaust available for the 8, but after hearing and feeling it on the car, I have no regrets laying down the cash for it.
Highly recommended if you are still a bit of a hoon.

well done nojooc. HKS certainly makes some great products.
Not sure if I'll exhaust my 8 or not. Dbb is doing his exhaust in Adelaide so I'll hook up with him and have a listen.
By the way, what did it cost you?

Hope you're sitting down AMG....
....landed it owes me $2100.
Don't understand why it is more expensive than what I paid for my HKS S14 or DC5 one.
Almost double the pricing! Worth it though.

That was also with a lot of shopping around as well.
The official distributor of HKS in Sydney (Australia?), BD4s wanted $2650 plus fitting.
I think Hymee can justify raising his price simply by sticking a
(H)ymee's
(K)icks
(S)h#t
sticker on the bottom of the mufflers!

Just read what I wrote and feel bad to Hymee because it sounds like I'm dissing his exhaust.
I'm not dissing your exhaust Hymee, just simply wanted to be creative with incorporating your name into HKS.
Sorry

Perhaps some of the following may be more appropriate for the new Hymee Corp brand name:
H ymee's
K iller
S ound
H ymee's
K ickass
S tainless system

I'm not worried about the name thing, nojooc. Congrats on your new purchase!
I am more worried about a comment I heard from someone (via a 3rd party) regarding the Hymee Exhaust about "how good could it be for that price?". When you try to give the community good value, that really hurts. If anyone would feel better about paying more, then I can accomodate that, but I would prefer to put the difference to a worthy charity.
Cheers,
Hymee.

As AMG said, I'm getting a custom exhaust fitted on Friday. My better half won't let me get an exhaust from the eastern states without hearing it (which is fair enough), and the guy doing the cat-back here is the best - and he is giving me a good price since it will be a prototype. There are other RX8 owners interested, but who don't want to be the first to make the plunge.

For that sort of money i would rather the Hymee Cat back..
I mean they are both high quality products one is name branded but unless your walking with a mirror on your shoe, who will be able to tell its HKS? You can always rice it out with stickers but i dont think you would want to do that.
Hey the money i would save for going with Hymee's solution would allow me to get the grill kit and possibly the ECU piggyback at a later stage when ready.. Another thing to consider supporting your locals is good for the scene down here in the sense that more money will go into the development of the 8 locally, saving us prices for modifications etc.
Of course this is my opinion and nojooc i would love to check out the exhaust :D
Regards
Phillip

I'll be having an exhaust fitted soon, but only after my ECU is on the car. That way you can get the most out of the exhaust/engine by being able to tune it properly.

Absolutely agree... but the question being which ECU should I go for? Rick's or Canzoomers... but anyhow I don't have anyone that I knew tuning it at this stage! I should P/M Hymee or Rick to see

I decided on the HKS because of my past experiences with the brand on my previous cars.
I know that they are often one of the most expensive, but quality and fit is assured (you can't beat CAD versus human design).
My reluctance with locally developed parts is due to past bad experiences I've had.
There's nothing wrong with local stuff (exhausts, ecu's, etc), they are just not for me, hence my choice in forking out $2100 for a catback "name-brand" exhaust.

I am eagerly awaiting the release of Apexi Power FC or HKS FCon V to see what their capabilities are.

Traditionally, Apexi's units are anywhere between $1500-$2000 plus tuning and dynoing.
There is also an additional hand controller which allows you tune "on the go".
They are expensive, but they are true plug and play.
I say traditionally, because that is what they normally retail at for other applications.
However, as I found with my exhaust, applications involving the RX8 are considerably pricier.
Will wait and see.

Hi nojooc!
I can understand where you are coming from, I have been burnt MANY times in the past from quite a number of rotary workshops in Sydney and Melbourne also.
Sounds like you need to be introduced to www.cityperformancecentre.com
these guys really are the most professional workshop I have ever come across rotary or non-rotary. They can do anything, I wouldn't have even thought about doing the www.4rotor.com project if it wasn't for them.

I was referring to the quality of the locally fabricated parts which I have had issues with.
