How much is a written off RX8 worth?

When you consider its an 05 with low kms, the gear box, tranny, electrics, exhaust and seats be might be Ok....hmm.....

But then again thats a pretty significant impact...

The first question is whether it is a repairable or statutory write-off.

I'd like to think that it is a repairable write-off for the bidding to start at $10,000.

Cheers,
Danny

Whilst its a mess I tend to think the car is repairable. If reserve is around $12K and Redbook has a resale of $35,000, a spend of less than $15K would then make it a worthwhile proposition.

I guess it comes down buying something sight unseen...I noticed the gearstick **** is missing and you really wouldn't know what else has been 'pilfered'. A photo can be deceptive which wouldn't reveal door alignment issues or other hidden dramas - but then a repair bill budget of $15K might just cut it.

Then there could be issues of full disclosure, misrepresentation, legal documentation etc. Anyone who considers buying it would really need to do their homework first...

Good point Michael. Mind you any attempt to change the identifcation number on the chassis or in particular the RX8 windscreen would stick out like dogs *****. For those who don't know, VIN codes spell out your car history....below is an example.

JMFE4173850100001
JM - model code (JM = RX-8 2003 - 2008)
FE Body Code (FE=sedan)
4 - 4 door
17 - Engine Code
3850100001 = serial number

In 1981 VINs were standardised to the 17 character format, and you can decode your car using the appropriate chart. Any attempt to register it would also alert authorities to a duplicate VIN...

You could fix that car easily. Years ago I used to buy and fix a lot of damaged cars and I reckon that ones not to bad. If I wash cashed up I would have a look at it. It has factory Nav too.

It will most likely listed as a repairable write off so it would need to have a VIV inspection done before it could be registered.
