Hymee Catback - first deliveries

Hymee Catback - first deliveries
Well after some unforseen delays, the first batch of Mild-steel catbacks ordered have been sent out today to the ever eager purchasers.
We had a delay in getting some stainless mufflers and tips, but they arrived today, so I am hopeful of meeting the SS orders this weekend and shipping them early next week.
I should have the "master" back on my car for the cruise on Sunday for all the hear, and hopefully be bringing a stainless sample for all to drool over.
You should see the size of the custom shipping cartons I had made for them! I could only fit 2 of them at a time into my car. So I have been ferrying them at lunch times (over multiple trips) to a stockpile at work, and bringing 2 home each evening![Smilie](https://www.rx8club.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Cheers

Funny story to tell from todays "workshop"
Lez, who is touching 40, builds these sorts of things all day. Probably since he duxed manual arts in high school.
Anyway, today Len was so proud with his work on NT-Rotorheads catback. He spent ages on it. Lex even put young Hymee to work on the buff. He thought it was funny - as he had never really seen me dirty - like I had done any work, before. So, you see, Les has finished this catback of NTRH's and got the final polishing cloth out with a bit of chalk dust. Looked really mint. We put a couple of bubble wrap "socks" on the tips, and I got one of the nice new shipping cartons specials. Put it in the box, and I was about to put it in the car. But it didn't make it into my car, nor home to Hymee's.
Guess what happened to it? Len took it home to show his wife! Nearly brought a tear to my eye.
Hehehe.
( Len, Lez, Les & Lex is a bit of a running joke on his name, to help protect the guilty
)
Cheers,
Hymee![](http://www.hymee.com/smilies/sm_karate.gif)
PS - Another funny thing happened tonight. Was at the drive through getting dinners. These kids walked passed. One wanted to show his mates he knew a thing or two about cars. "Wow - look at the MR8!!!"

Hymee, fitted the grille kit this arvo....went on easy, looks ace.
Grouse work, easy to read instructions....not too much zen req'd!!!
I've got to hear the exhaust in the flesh though b4 I make a decision on it, I'm out and about at odd hours if you hadn't already noticed by the times on some of my posts.....as much as I want a bit more of a note, I don't want any grief from the neighbours!!
...I live in a sleepy, leafy, inner eastern suburb....
Will Morticia, for example, who isn't "into" cars, notice that the exhaust note is different as I start it up and idle quietly down the drive???
Gomez.

Gomez,
If Morticia notices, just tell her The Thing farted, or perhaps it was Cousin It.
It is barely noticable at idle. Just a nice gentle sporty burble.
I'll be in Sydney on the evening of the 2nd April - your welcome to catch me to have a listen. JoeB should have his by then, not sure if he would have it fitted by then.
Which reminds me, I need to get stuck into the instruction manual...
Cheers,
Hymee.

Hymee, I was really impressed with that exhaust note from your red machine. I am seriously considering a significant purchase.
Well done Hymee

I had the pleasure of following Hymee into the tunnel on the Brisbane Inner City Bypass (ICB to us locals). Got to say... it sounded awesome in the tunnel, and came through remarkably well on the UHF too :D

A work of art. I agree with L&L. This is something that needs to be seen … and heard!? While you are in Sydney I suggest you visit some of the shops in Paddington and see how many examples of this objet d'art they would like.

First Problems - Arrg :(
Hymee is in damage control!!!
I have just had an email from JoeB. He received his today, earlier than I had expected. I sent the first couple out without instructions, with a promise of sending them today via email. I got caught off guard, and Joe has attempted to start anyway.
The biggest problem is getting the slip-joint apart, where the intermediate pipe and the muffler are joined, and a U-bolt is holding it together.
In the factory, the U-Bolt is tightened up heaps, and the metals are fairly soft and it squashes in. It needs to be heated with an oxy and hit with a soft mallet to get the joint apart. This is done after the whole muffler and intermediate pipe is removed from the vehicle. This is probably best done on a hiost. The other thing is the end of the intermediate pipe needs to be "pumped out to be round" after the heating and separating. This is best done on a hydraulic press like at an exhaust shop. The instructions make this clear, but I don't blame him for being eager and having a go.
Les told me you shouldn't be charged more that 20-40 dollars to do those 2 things. In fact, he would only charg $40 to fit the thing.
Also, Joe reported that the gasket was damaged somehow. It was in bubble wrap - I guess I need to learn from that.
My appologies to Joe for getting him into a bind.
Cheers,
Hymee.
