Hymee supercharger heading to the USA

Snooping around i found this on the Hymster blog site ,Some of you could be interested in what hes up to since he has become a bit of a recluse of late

Time to relax and make a post at last!
September 1st, 2007 by hymee
Hi all,

I find myself at last in a position to relax and make a blog post. It has been about 12 months since I really made any noise. This time last year I was busy arranging the Mazda RX-8 Club of Australia’s Nationals for 2006. Starting a new job coupled with an illness was serious enough to keep me from attending the very event I poured so much effort into!

Anyway, 12 months later, things are much better. I’m sitting here on a nice Cataraman anchored in the Brisbane River relaxing and waiting for the year’s biggest fireworks event, riverfire (http://www.riverfestival.com.au/riverfire/). It should be a great night, the highlight for me being the dump and burn fly past by a pair of RAAF F111’s. These 40 year old aircraft are still exciting enough to raise the hair on the back of my neck. It is a truly awesome experience, as anyone who has experienced it would know. Not sure about the carbon footprint of the dump and burn though!

In a little over 2 weeks I will be heading to the USA to help celebrate 40 years of Mazda’s rotary engine. I’ll be attending the 10th annual SevenStock http://www.sevenstock.org evet at Irvine, CA. As part of that event, I’ll be lucky enough to be a guest speaker, so this is something I’m really looking forward to.

I’ve been spending a lot of time, particular since the beginning of July, in further developing my RX-8 Supercharger kit, and I will be showcasing it at SSX It is going to be something special. I won’t be publlishing any photographs prior to my trip, as I have serious IP invested and need to take the appropriate measures to help protect it. One of these is that I must have not published or sold such items prior to lodging the paperwork with IP Australia.

Anyway, time to relax a bit more and enjoy the show in a few hours.

Attached were going to be a couple of pics from my cruise up the river this afternoon, but I forgot to bring my USB cable for the camera on board with me. Bugger!

Cheers,

Hymee

Hey, thanks for that Michael.

I've been missing Hymee around here. Really glad to hear his supercharger kit appears to be sorted, etc.

No. It means he is taking what he has at the moment and demonstrating it at SSX. It also means he is contemplating (possibly ready to lodge) an Intillectual Property proposal in Australia. This last part I find...interesting to say the least.

The first step is to lodge a Provisional Patent. This doesn't have to be as complete as a full patent application, but it does give you priority on the idea. You use a provisional patent when you are contemplating either selling the technology, or are seeking finance to develop it further or seeking a joint venturer, etc. Before you disclose what's in your "Prov", you get your intended partner(s) to sign a confidentiality/non-disclosure agreement. A "Prov" gives you worldwide protection (at least in those countries with which Australia has a mutual agreement) for a year, and gives you time to work on the business end of things or finish development. If you're smart, you'll get your patent attorney to draft the patent so that it's acceptable in format and content for US patent examination. Filing a Prov is cheap (you can do it yourself), but getting worldwide patent coverage costs serious money. Four questions to ask before you go down this path: (1) Is my invention really novel (ie, have I done my research really thoroughly) (2) Can I recoup the money which I'll lay out on patenting (and keep on paying out for renewals all around the world) through sales, licensing, etc (3) Can I afford to defend it if someone (eg, a large corporation with a team of expensive lawyers) decides to infringe my patent. (4) Am I doing this to make a buck, or is it just to massage my ego?

I wish I had read this before I went in to Riverfire! Oh well, it was a fantastic night, the dump n burns were fantastic as always, and the Roulettes were in great form (even if they did hit a bird on the first pass and two of the six had to head home early). I'm sure Hymee enjoyed himself as much as I did (especially anchored in the Brisbane River relaxing on a Catamaran). Now I just gotta hope to catch him before he heads off to the US so I can maybe nab a short shifter & grille kit. I wish the mod bug hadn't bitten already... I was hoping for atleast 6 months of self control..

Short shifters and grille kits in stock. I also have a "updated" MKII exhaust system. I have a special "one" celebrating Mazda's 40 years of RE development I want to advertise on that site I cant mention here for fear of getting banned :0. (Don't check now, it isn't on there yet).

There are other things in the world of intellectual property other than patents. Take my Hymee Enhanced logo, for example. It is now a registered trade mark - have a look at http://pericles.ipaustralia.gov.au/t...mage_viewer.pl and enter this number to search on 1056529 . Anyway - what, if any, IP I am talking about will come out in the wash.

Cheers,
Hymee.

Good stuff mate. Glad to see you posting here and hope you keep us updated on developments. The Hymee Enhanced/PDA related trademark stuff I can understand and weren't in train of thought. It was the RENESIS/SC design/concept related stuff that was my train of thought.

I eagerly await for news on your break through in FI development. It will be good to have more choices should you choose to go down the FI track.

Hymee bunking in over at my place. Made him fix the plumbing in the guest bathroom. He's built for it with plumber cleavage.
He's at the shop building his engine now. I'm off to the shop and then we're off to Irvine for the night.

Can't wait to see pics, I'm just hoping the cost is more competitive than the Pettit Racing kit but probably not if its quality, which it seems like it will be. Ideally I'd love >275whp for <$5K, or for free that works too hahaha

looks like a lot of engineering was needed to turn the supercharger around . Why did you do that Hymee ?

Have to say it looks the business but to me it looks like it will sit to high to fit into the engine bay. I am curious if its been fitted in an engine bay.

Cheers

I believe (and dont take it as gospel) that it has to do with being able to run the air out of the blower and into the TB with smoother lines or possible just being able to get from the blower outlet into the TB. Again, dont quote me.

Cheers

Andrew

Andrew,

How about this...

I.e. it fits under the standard covers.

These engines sit very low!

Cheers,
Hymee.
