timbo and I fitted our kits yesterday... got some pics of it as well. Black one is mine, red one timbo's

Pics could be a bit slow, it's just my home server sitting on top of the fridge

First of all... with fronts off.. note the bucket and waterfall from the front of mine, that's the fluid for the xenon headlight washers.

Want to say a big thank you to Hymee for his high quality work! Judging from the amount of bugs I collected today in mine, this thing is working a treat!

i heard the bumper is easy to take off, but tell me, is it really as easy as it looks in those pics. you have like 2 tools missing from the kit.

 

The non-leather pack one is quite easy, all you need is a socket and a screwdriver... the leather pack one is a lot more tricky, there's quite a bit of plumbing in the bumper for the headlight washers and there's also the foglights... took us 2.5 hours for both of them.

 

What we need is a cold beer powered volounteer crew able to assist with installs [ i'd drive to Melb or Bris ] as I know I'd screw it up - the closest I come to working with nuts and bolts is rack mount installs in 19" chasis data centres and even then I'm all thumbs.

Yeah, well, as pepe says, it was pretty simple, although I am going to suggest a few edits to Hymee for the install instructions -- nothing technically wrong at all -- indeed, I had the strong impression Hymee has the full system documentation gene -- but the process reminded me a bit of that book "Zen and the Art of Motocycle Maintenance" -- and in a few places, I felt the doco needs some Zen comments

For example, pepe mastered the art of disconnecting the indicators in a flash, but I just couldn't do it, so I am going to suggest that the doco at that point suggests you get your breathing right and think of pleasant things (like driving the 8 on uncrowded, smooth curving roads through a forest, with a gentle breeeze and Enya .... aaaagh, aagh am in a wierd zone here )

Anyway, Hymee, love ya work!:p

 

Glad to see it is working. Let me know the edits guys. And yes the only tools required are a few sockets, a phillips head screwdriver and a couple of small drills.

Maybe I should paint those bottom screws black? It doesn't really show on mine, but Pepe's close up showed them.

But most of all - how much did you enjoy doing such a worthwhile thing to your cars, and to be able to say you did it yourself?

Yeah, those screws would look better in black, one of the guys in the local REACT club commented on them yesterday... you can only see them if you're really close though... might get in there with a paintbrush myself

It was a good experience, certainly taught me a lot about the front end of the car, although some of those connectors are bloody tough to get apart, my fingertips are still sore!

 

Well done boys , yeah hymee it gave me a great feeling upon conpletion however i had a few moments of anguish , but i took a few deep breaths and persavered .

My attention span these days is not geared up for too much concentration .

Good job however if you place the head of the screws towards the car you dont see the head of the screws.near the grill, no need for painting .

BTW, I have been outed, anonimity no more -- if you look at the top r/h corners of a couple of photos, you will see your truly holding the digital camera. Always correctly attired, you may even note the Velocity Red shirt

 

... and I really am going to have to get new number plates in white on red -- have usually avoided such adornments, but found myself dribbling on pepe's car, as his plates really set it off

I practice in an ancient korean philosophical art known as SUN-DO this is in some ways similar to ZEN .

 

Timbo & Pepe - the cars look just awesome and the grills look as if the factory installed them!

I'm, however, in the same boat as Dez - give me a 19" rack and server and it's a snap. Playing with my RX8 is another story - don't think I'll have the confidence to do it myself - I'd probably end up morphing the RX8 into a Camry - arhhh.

In anycase, Hymee - let us know when you're taking orders for the next batch - definitely wanna be part of the "grill' set!

Bloody hell, what a brilliant idea, turn the screws around... can ya tell we're both IT people?

 

You could try and turn the screws around, but there is a 5mm gap between the wires, and I don't think the screw head will engage as well / things line up as well.

Black screws sound like the go if you are worried.

Looking for work drive rx8 however i am , .10 inches short of 19 inches rack whatever that is , hey but i have had no complaints from the ladies .

SUN-DO is a korean art incorporating joint & muscle manipulation , streching excersices , deep breathing , and understanding ones place within the universe .

You'll find me Zooming around Bondi - it would be great to get our two blue ones together (gosh - maybe they could even procreate an MX5 )

We can discuss work and those wonderful wonders of Computer Rooms (19" Racks!) while we pond how to remove the front end of our beloved 8's to install their much needed "Prophylactics a la Hymee".

Rest assured - you're down for Chief of Engineering or Race Event Manager or Lead Driver..

And beleive me - I've given a lot of thought to "what would you do it you were to make a living off this car? And not have to sell them??"

I can't find anything that comes close to my current day job.

Seriously though - Cradle can't employ enough staff with the right outlook on life - we can get hundreds of degree qualified monkeys, but I'll take self taught, driven and bright individuals who can make and execute a decision any day.

As for my place in the universe.

It's right in the drivers seat of a Winning Blue Oz Leather Pack RX8 with the specific responsibility of keeping the RPM count between 7,500 and 9,500 !!

As for asian / martial arts - before I started to go grey, loose little hair, and realised that my metabolism had started to let me down, I spent a healthy amount of time practicing Wing Chun.. I can't say I ever got great at it - but I really got into a zone with it!

I'm planning to move from the ancient aussie art of CAN-DO to the new Mazda art of GO-ZOOM!

I tell you, this forum is a healthy mix of good people, from quacks, zen, sun-do, techies, software, data nuts, engineering, the list goes on.

I think it's fair to say that RX8 owners are a refined and well read bunch, where as "other" car enthusiast start and finish with Beerz Mate!
