How much better are Xenon's over standard type lights?

I test drove both at night and found a marked difference - particularly on roads without lighting.

I also think the L/P is worth the ask. Bose is more than just power. Pedals are and the leather is more child friendly than cloth - just wipe it off.

Also a marked advantage come resale time.

If there is a $9k spread between the leather and the standard, you would want at least 60% of it back after 3 years... so I would be looking for a residual of about $35k on the standard and $42k for the leatehr. I just figured there are likely to be a heap more buyers at $35k than $42k, regardless of the seat fabric. The residual of the 200SX looks like it will be excellent. When considering a 350Z vs an RX8 it looked like the RX8 was holding up better... any thoughts on that? Continued tightness in the supply should help prop up the prices.

I have saw that on discountnewcars.com.au, 04 plated base model from 50k plus plus - I assume that is pretty good, about $54k driveaway.

FWIW paid just under $60k for an 04 leather pack model (plus a grand or two for options) back in March. I think the fact that supply is pretty limited means little movement on price.

Went for my driving course on Wednesday - good fun, though the highlight was the instructor driving my car around the race track whilst we waited to do the slalom again

Oh and have to say that the breaks are frigging awesome

Where's your evidence for this? I'm sorry, but the experience of 10+ cars over the last 30 years has taught me that's not the case and that lower spec models depreciate slower relative to higher spec, esp in sports cars.

You have the edge on me in time and sports car experience, but I've always found it easier to find a purchaser for an optioned up model than a pov pack when I've sold previous cars.

Anyway, let's not get too hot under the collar about it. I don't think any of us chose our particular flavour solely with a view to resale.

I'm sure you enjoy your lightweight version as much as I enjoy my heavy L/P.

Sorry -- didn't mean to sound hot under the collar, rather that it's a popular misconception that higher spec cars depreciate less than a lower spec in the same model.

:o my original pre-order was a leather pack, but when I saw the Titanium (which I ordered) beside the red... I really wanted the red...and it just so happened the guy who pre-ordered the red pov pack wanted Titanium, and was ok to pay the price difference (of course, neither of us had the patience to wait another three months :p )

No sweat Timbo. I took no offence. I guess I just wanted to get across that it is a bit of an academic argument. There's no reason owners of either model need to get uptight about what we bought. The essential car we all love is the same.

Your comments on colour are interesting. I was dead keen on the blue (don't ask me what it's marketing name is ) and when I got the offer on the titanium demo I had to think long and hard. See, I had decided the 8 was out of my price range and was all set to buy a Mini Cooper S. Luckily I went for the 8 instead. Anyway, call it sub-conscious justification, I'm now really happy with the titanium and could not imagine owning another colour (except maybe Ezzy's orange!! :D ).

And Tim Tam, sorry to keep hijacking your thread. Congrats. Hope you have fun with it.

I'm happy to trade a few kilo's for some dead cow and a half decent stereo. Truth be told the fastest improvement i could do in saving weight is Jenny Criag :o . I'd have bolted on the sunroof and nav if had been an option....then again I'd have Shinka'd too:p

Come on light weight sports pack, do what I do spend the extra cash on the leather but only ever get half a tank of gas to save the extra weight :D. That and I empty out the washer fluid bottle, I make sure the oil is kept really low, oh yea I fogot, I also take a crap before driving :D, ....................

Sorry what were we talking about again....oh yea, Timtam congrats mate, it is pleasure at it's purest, take it for a spin by yourself when you get it, you don't want anyone wrecking the first date.

My Lightweight Sports Pack is 29kg lighter than the average dead cow equipped Oz RX-8. Think you could drop 29kg's.....? :D

I got it, picked it up on Friday. And it's FANTASTIC!!!!! What a lovely car, it's such a joy to drive. The handling is amazing, I kept taking it out into the twisties beyond Cotter (Canberra boys will know where I mean). Not easy keeping the revs down though, I'm trying to limit rpm to 4000 but it's a struggle.

I've done 350km, which pretty well used a full tank of juice. That worked out to be about 15.5l/100km, not real good considering I was keeping the revs low.

Can't wait to install a Hymee.

That is about right Tim... the rotary need sometimes to settle down and you will get 15L only when you open throttle very often.
