P plate are not legally able to drive the RX-8 under the 125kW/tonne rule. Having said that, automatic?
Unless you want to make friends with the police, do not put your P plate on a sports car.

Thanks for you advice guys. I've learnt alot. I'll be sure to do some intensive research, after my external exams that is.
But I'm pretty bumbed about the RX8 mt being considered to be a high powered car in Victoria, now I might have to go for automatic

I know this heresy for an RX8 forum but can I offer you some advice?
Since the manual 8 is not an option for you, why not get yourself a hot hatch for the time being (assuming there's one the speed ***** in Victoria will let you drive)?
There's plenty of them on the market to choose from these days. If turbo is an absolute no-go because of the P-plate regs down there, even an SP23 is a good option.
You'll save a lot of money, still have a fun car to run around in and it's a better step up to cars like the 8 once you're on your black licence.
Think about it.

That is very true
Here is the list from VicRoads regarding high power car.
Basically it is 125kW/tonne or 3.5L/tonne as a limit

Its either an Auto or a different car for me.
I'm currently searching around for a different car. Can you guys please give me suggestions for a car? Except for the ones already mentioned before.

Might be easier if you first worked out what your shortlist is.

If you must go Auto , dont get the 4 speed GET THE 6 SPEED AUTO BEING RELEASED SHORTLY .
Once the 6 speed Auto is released the 4 speed will drop rapidly in value .
Get the Honda civic type R shortly coming to OZ

I was under the assumption also that if the p-plater has no other alternative of driving 1 of the banned cars then an exemption could be granted. however i think that would be tricky....
