I'm extremely happy with the experience and don't keep track of fuel consumption to see how economically I drive. The only reason I keep track of my km's and fuel consumption is for personal knowledge and being able to know fairly accurately if I have to drive somewhere when I'm likely to need to stop and get petrol, and for personal statistical information (about my driving, the health of the car and comparing it to previous cars I've owned).

My driving style lately is definitely more of the 1st thru 3rd rev limitter or close and into 6th when reaching the speed limit. This has resulted in an increase from around 11.5L/100 to around 12.5L/100. If I had more time to just go on longish drives on good twisty turny roads then chances are my usage would be similar to the 14s - 16s/100km. I still wouldn't complain.

Anyone seen the Wheels mag long-termer update? They're getting mid-13's now and seem to be piling the k's onto added over 4000 this month I think! Must be a popular car at the end of the day's work.

My first drive (Albury to Canberra) was dead on 10L/100Km... since then probably average about 14.5 around town, best of 9.3 on the freeway to Sydney... but have no idea how to drive this car efficiently, last week, spent a lot of time idling, lot of time with the A/C on, all city driving, lots of redlines... yet it was 10% more efficient than the average... without doing anything noticably different.... 'cept for the REALLY hot weather here.

Hmmm, my main gripe with this car, is that for the power, the fuel economy sucks. Reading around our cars seem to have comparable economy to a R34 GTR (this is only from web pages, I'm not stating fact) and I have never driven a R34 (only a R32), but I can imagine that GTR is gonna pretty much own a RX8 over any bit of road around. The car is generally a fantastic drive, the handling is fun, although I wish the seats were more supportive, they tend to lack a bit when the going gets too windy. But seriously has no one here ever thought that the car could use more pace, especially for the amount of gas it drinks?

GTR will kill your pocket

Car: 90K for a decent R34 (I prefer V-spec)
Mods: equal or if not more expensive than RX-8 for the same product.
Fuel: 20L/100km average (according to my friend Dr. Ma)
Insurance: Rating 1 30 y.o. in the safest VIC Eastern suburb with lots of mods. Guess what is the insurance is - $5000 per year

Yes he is 10 seconds faster than me per lap on the track. hehe - he needs to change pad and tyre every 2-3 track days. There is a price to pay there :D

Haaa yeah but at least with a GTR you will be able to eat anything on the road

Hmm strange I read somewhere fuel consump is about 15L/100km?

Ok sure maybe that was a bad example, but you surely get my point, don't get me wrong I do love my RX8 but I feel that the fuel consumption is bad for the power output, compared to other cars. And adding some sort of FI or something down the track to make it faster?? Urgh and the fuel consumption is bad now???
