After a long time away from the forum I have finally returned. Just my 2 cents. In my first year my insurance was about 3600 with NRMA thats for male over 30 no a fault claims, no licence demerits and max no claim living in Marrickville NSW. This year the premium has fallen to around the 3000 mark. I know when I first got the car in July 2003 I was tempted to move to Melbourne just to save on my insurance

With the wonderfull Carr government introducing its taxes and the downward pattern of prices in Sydney, you mightn't have cheaper houses for long.

At least in Sydney and Melbourne though we use barrels for oil and not for storing bodies like in SA

Well I'll be ringing round very soon to get prices. I'll start with my current insurer - AAMI - and see what can be done. Would hope to get around $1200 or less for full replacement value.

$1010, RAA insurance rating 1, protected no claim bonus, not living in the barrels suburb. Monthly payment option, choice of own repairer. I have always found Shannons too expensive. When I was 28 they wanted $7K for the RX7. RAA did it for $1600.

AMG my best friend for some strange reason is going back to Adelaide to work . He has a Integra Type R that has a few mods (intake, ECU and exhaust, rims) - called RAA and they do not insure him (he is 28). Do you know a good place that does insurance for modded cars?

CGU... is that advertised insurance for retirees?

Hey Lock & Load... there is a way to save money for your mod. hehe :D

Cheap insurance for old f&*ts... I must tell my dad that and he'll go and get an M5 and insure under CGU.

I've just tried to do a quote online with CGU and the Rx8 is not even listed as a vehicle option. WTF?

A lot of people suffering a mid-life crisis and/or retirees buy sportscars, so not listing the car is inexcusable.

So did I, but it appears that their insurance is available to everybody, well almost everybody except Rx8 drivers.

Talking Now that I need to insure an RX-8!

Got a dealer quote from Suncorp Metway for $938.77 for the car fully comprehensive with 2 year new replacement. Will have to see if AAMI (who only offer 1 year new replacement) can get close.

Age37, Rating 1 Garaged in Ashgrove QLD 4060

Last year $2480, 60% no claim clean record etc etc....28 y/o
Just renewed last week;
$2041.00 same deal as above
At this rate in 6 years they will be paying me

It's nothing new. When I were wee lad with Cooper S, which I think new cost me $2,700, NRMA comprehensive insurance was $500, which $ for $ is a lot worse than you young whipper-snappers pay today...

(shuffles off, puts on slippers and slumps back in armchair, to quickly resume snoring...)

Gibbo,

You're in the "safe(r)" Hills district aren't you?
That's the only explanation I can have for you having such a smaller premium then me.

I just ran an estimate with NRMA with my car being garaged in my mate's safer neighbourhood of Peakhurst and do you believe what it spat back?

$2200 p.a.

That's bloody $1400 less then what I'm paying now.
I should reconsider my area of residence.
