Interrrupted a guy trying to steal my car

Wife had come in about an hour earlier in the evening with her hands full and left the garage door open.
I decided to go to the store and walked out in the garage to find a guy looking all over for a key. He took off running and I was in hot pursuit but had on bad choice of shoes (flops) so he got a head start on me.
Chased him down the street where he jumped into a waiting car and speed off.

Damn I hate a thief.

The drivers window was down but I had tripped the dead bolt locks on the doors out of habit and I never leave the keys in garage or the car, else I am sure it would have been gone.

Why would people look into your garage when the garage door is open?

I just don't understand that sometimes.

I had the same happen to us a while back when my wife forgot to close the garage door. This guy was snooping around in the garage. I guess they where just driving by and saw an open garage so they thought they might see what they can find.

Fortunately, the neighbor spotted them and gave chase but they took off in a haste. He said that they where going around the car trying to look inside. I am not sure what the motive was as any attempt to break the glass would have alerted everyone in the quiet and isolated neighborhood.

You should have got in the 8 and drove over him so he could get a better look.

Did you get the number of the waiting car?

What a bloody lowlife.

We're usually pretty careful to close our garage door...mind you, I live in a smallish cul de sac where you can't fart without the neighbours talking about it, so a thief would have buckleys of wandering around my garage without at least 5 blokes crash tackling him on the way out.

PS - which is why having the guys in the street around to watch the footy occasionally is a good practice. People look out for you more when they know you.

Someone tried to steal mine a few weeks ago too! They even came back a second time and we chased after them, but were too far behind. We could not see the plate or anything. It just burned me up inside!!! I got a new alarm, but if they want your car bad enough--its gone! It was parked on the street outside of my girlfriends home. Now, I will only put it in her garage or mine. Man, those low life chicken-*****!

Do what you need to do to protect it because they might creep in everynow and then just to check...

I posted a thread about it.

There has been more than a few thefts on the Gold Coast in recent months where the thieves get the keys and take off with the cars.
They are even breaking into the houses late at night finding the key hanger where most people keep the spares or such.

I didn't get the plate number they took off with the lights off and it was dark so I couldn't get them.

I'm glad they didn't get it. We should cut off peoples hands for stealing. In Singapore the RX8 club told me that they could leave their car keys in their cars anywhere and not worry at all and they don't bother with alarms.
Why can't we be like that here..

Let's hope this isn't their next step.

I have a very large German Shepard that sleeps in the laundry room that adjoins to garage every night.

I am kind of hoping they do decide to come back late at night and try again.

I think we have stupid laws here... I recall there was a case on paper that a burglar broke into a house through the ceiling, as he landed on kitchen bench where there was a puddle of water or something, so the burglar slipped and broke his legs or back or something, end result? The house owner got sued and fined. There was another case in Adelaide few years back, there was three trespassers aged 16-21, 2 girls one man who climbed over the high fence of a residential house in Glenelg, Adelaide, despite there was massive warning sign of dogs in the perimeter, those three got torn up severely by the terriers in the backyard and were sent to the hospital, the outcome? Dogs owner was sued, went to court, all dogs were put down and owner got a hefty fine.

So you better remove your dog in case they re-visit your house, and lay a red carpet to your garage with keys in the car, and possibly with instruction to warm up engine etc... sigh...

The moral of the story above is, if someone tries to break into your house and is injured, don't call for help - just bury them in the backyard!

I had a friend that owned a VW microbus. Someone broke into it and stole stuff from the inside. To add to the misery, they dropped their trousers and left a deposit on the floor. The problem with that was, when they dropped their pants, their wallet fell out with their ID. Police knew right where to go to pick them up.

You joke but where I was originally from Texas in the states it is law that if you catch someone in your house their life is yours to do with as you wish. And the cops always say if you shoot them outside just drag em in the house before you call to report it.

Hard to get used to the idea in Qld you are supposed to let them have what ever the want make them a coffee and sandwich while they steal you blind and then call the cops after you see them safely to their car.
