Which looks better...current or new RX8?

Try again....! Now that the new RX-8 has been revealed, it would be interesting to see what people thinks looks better, our current RX-8 or the new model...

Like I said in the other thread, the grille kills it for me. I like the new fog light arrangement, new gorgeous interior, and LED tail lights, but the rest of the exterior looks way too awkward. The grille is way too wide, the headlights are too blocky, the rear looks unfinished, and the side vents look nasty. The MkI RX-8 looks gorgeous, this one looks like they've changed it just to say they've changed something. Frankly, I'm disappointed.

I like my RX8, but I do think the new one looks a bit meaner ... even if it does look like a Peugeot 407 from the front.

Pretty much sums up my thoughts.

Resale doesn't worry me. I was more keen on trading in for something that was an improvement (IMO).

Still, as I said elsewhere, I'll reserve final judgment until I see one in 3D.

I'm sure Mazda will have a 3D model of one available online at some stage.

If I could right now I would buy another car but doing this whole mortgage owning house on my own has made it hard for me to do that (for now anyway).

Anyway everyone entitled to own opinion. I just wouldnt be buying another 8..
I don't think you should just get a car for the hell of getting something new because the whole 'new' thing wears off pretty quick.

If i could find my favourite pair of jeans again i would buy them again because functionality and style are more important than the cheap thrill of buying something new or different.

I think if the car fits the bill, why not get another one.

Of course it is a lot harder for us young'ens because our circumstances are not as 'ho-hum' as the more mature owners. We've got to deal with moving out, benig unemployed for a while to study, having quarter-life crisis and packing up and becoming a sherpa, starting a family, the first home etc etc...

I can see the 8 becoming a little too expensive to own once i start having to save for things more important than Friday night ****-ups.

I'm with you on that...put an showroom original 2007 RX8 up against the new 2008 model and my prediction is for a $5 - $7 difference in price....particularly when you take into consideration the Recaros...

I'm happy to buy something different but there's currently nothing in the market that comes any closer to my needs with the same mix of performance, handling, looks, price and practicality.

These are all subjective decisions. I was just hoping for the cosmetic changes to the new model to be an improvement or at the very least not a backward step.

Anyway, it's all talk talk talk atm. Seeing one in the metal and driving it might change my mind. We'll see.

Those wheels look straight off a WRX.

When I bought it I saw the 8 as more than a $18000 car tarted up with a body kit and a hair dryer. I think the current model looks better.

I have just been reading the overview on drive.com.au
They keep quoting times of around 6.2 seconds for 0 to 100kph. I think mine would stuggle to do that driving it off a cliff. At the lights I am sick of getting beaten by anything that has a bit of grunt. What do you have to do rev it to 7500 and drop the clutch?
I see the new one basically has no more power in the manual. They claim it is faster because it weighs less, to do that they have taken out the Bose stereo and a few other things to make it lighter - wow that's real progress.
Don't mind the front but not sure if its a real improvement.
Gets LED tail lights which now brings it level with the SP 3 Mazda - real progress.
New vents behind front wheels are a real backward move.
Summary - Change for the sake of change.
Real improvement is the way Nissan has progressed the 350 ZX.
Time to save for a GTR.

I don't see it as a good city car. Heavy on fuel, firm suspension and low torque is not what you need in traffic.

Out here where my drive to anywhere has a collection of 25,35,45 and 65 kmh corners some with overtaking lanes and little traffic the car makes real sense.
In the right rev range the car is quick enough and through corners it is a delight.
EVERYDAY.
No wonder my tyres are nearly worn out at 18000 km.

Sorry.

I voted current but have a feeling that once I start seeing them, the current model will start to look dated and I will change my opinion.

Can one of you guys with some computer wizardry photoshop a set of comparison pics ie
Front, rear and Side shots then people will be able to see the diference.
At the moment I don't like it, I prefer our current model.

it's funny. not matter what forum you go on for what type of car people are always gonna dislike the new models. people don't like change. you'll get used to it, like it, and hate the next model. the cycle will repeat.....
