Sorry, I thought it was obvious....

Its a cutaway training aid of a rotor in its housing. The exhaust and intake ports are shown, the rotor rotates on its eccentric shaft when rotated with Tim Tam's submarine hatch handle. The spark plug even fires.

It's solid metal with a bakelite base. Was used in German Technical schools as a training aid in the 60's/70's.

So more a collectable or conversation piece then. Okay, thanks.

I can safely promise not to outbid you on any similar auction.

Sure, but I don't need a model of it on my desk or mantelpiece (although I do confess to picking up a 1/36 model of the 8 in Ti grey for about $10 when I was on holiday ).

Never mind - collecting is highly personal - one person's junk is another person's treaure and I'm not knocking 'Mez's passion for the piece.

I'm not personally mocking you either. You know we like to have a bit of fun around here.

Taka, the "spark plug" is a small low voltage lamp, like in a torch.

Cheers,
Hymee.

I realise this is not everyone's cup of tea. I like it as I enjoy pulling things to pieces and seeing how they work. To appreciate it you'd need to have a bit of a technical background, I suppose.

You don't need to smuggle them into the country, Taka. I can send you down one if you like.

Gomez...

It consists of a high voltage grid (dual cylindrical, one +VE, one -ve) surrounding a blue fluro light that attracts insects. As soon as they span the grid... Zap. AKA a Bug Zapper.

Taka - is that it?

Cheers,
Hymee.

Yeah, I'm familiar with those of course. I was picturing some battery powered motor driven fly swatter! Bug zappers have been here since voltage was invented , I assumed Taka wasn't importing one of those!!!

I found it......it's a high voltage tennis racket!!

I'm not surprised Customs baulked at one of those!

Cheers,
Hymee.

hehe, you'd get along famously with one of my brothers. He'd only play with a toy for a day before pulling it apart. Of course, then he'd nick mine for the same treatment.

Eventually, he was only given toys that he had to make himself.

I still laugh when I remember the infamous Airfix Model Incident of 1979. A fight began over something probably insignificant whereupon an orgy of destruction ensued. It was model planes at ten paces but I won because his were better constructed then mine - hence greater feelings of loss on his part. The upside was more room on the shelf for new arrivals.

No - haven't had a chance yet. Too busy with house stuff, work and social commitments.

Will get it done over the next couple of weeks I hope. Will report results.
