I know, but was the "new" model when i bought mine LOL!!!! A mere junior catfood rep at the time was out of my league!!!!

Nearly bought a 70's lotus, but as I was trading in my prize mg midget, decied a waterproof or at least "not soluable in water" car would be better. Had great fun in it, loved the pop up headlights!!

Family car update (whether you're interested or not ).

Council of War last night. Surprise, surprise - after careful analysis of the driving and lugging 'er indoors actually does, we crunched some numbers and found that we could really down-size to a medium hatchback.

We figured even if we hired the odd large car for a week to do holiday duty or move something big, we'd still be in front given the lower sticker price and better fuel consumption. Mind you, her sister's Lexus RX330 is also available at need for a drive to the snow, etc.

So, the 6 and the Liberty is out the window and we're now looking at jiggers like the Mazda 3, etc.

She's happy with the idea of the 3 Maxx in a 5M but I'm obviously keener on the SP23 in a 6M. A $4K difference, which might come down if we can find a demo SP23.

Taka, any regrets with your SP23 so far, particularly for domestic duties? Sedan or hatch?

For those still following the family car saga (i.e. me ).

Took the plunge today. Within a week 'er indoors will be making the other kindy mums jealous in a spanking new Classic Mazda 6 manual sedan in Pacific Blue.

Will be nice to see the back of the family truckster (I just hope nothing else goes wrong with it before we get to kick it to the kerb).

Okay, I'll stop now.

Get this - while costing some insurance for the new jalopy, 'er indoors discovered that AAMI had not amended its records properly when we moved in 2001 . As a result, premiums for the family truckster had been calculated on the old, marginally higher risk, postcode (we moved somewhere even safer in May).

The good news, after a spirited attack by 'er indoors (not to be gainsaid in these matters), AAMI has promised to recalculate the premiums for the past 5 years and refund us the difference.

Something worth knowing about, I thought. Check your premium calculation next time you renew (or sooner if concerned).

Interior and I couldn't resist a further shot showing the natural order of things (garage-wise).

Sorry, you'll have to indulge me. Revolver Jnr caught me posting shots of Mum's new wheels and insisted on sharing his finished project (completed yesterday, with a bit of help from me).

(btw, these are fun and not too exxy for the hours it takes a near 6 yr old to figure out).

He's not quite 6, so I want to wait for his fine motor skills to improve before I let him loose on RC stuff. We've had cheapies given as gifts (e.g. with the cord attached to the unit) and he's still not quite there on controlling them.

Anyways, he was telling me this morning that a boat is next.

BTW, 'er indoors old man is into RC stuff. He's got some bloody dangerous looking helicopters atm.

He probably didn't have much choice. Mind you, he's been fixated on cars from a very early age. I suppose I haven't done much to discourage that.

The real challenge will be when he wants the keys to my vintage RX8.
