Michael I went Latin Dancing at West End tonight and there's a groovy bistro called "Lock 'n Load" right next to it. I had a nice time there with my wife and observed some very nice patrons...

Have you ever been there? (and I recommend it to everyone...)

Gomez this is a copy of the letter i gave Goldcoast Mazda , they kept the car from 9am rang me at 3pm to tell me that they had done a compression test and my car had a failed problems in the front rotor .Charged me $99.00 told me that the last engine fix they did cost $12,000 .

Nothing else was looked at as per my letter and they allowed my car to be towed back home and i might add with a flat battery .

Re: MRX08

History

stock Mazda catalytic converter burnt out at 57,000 kms.
replaced the cat with an after market stainless steel Metal Cat (catalytic converter)
had the Metal Cat for 10,000 kms before once again it burnt out
have sourced David De Vito’s original stock Mazda catalytic converter which had done about 20,000 kms and is currently on my car
wired up rear O2 sensor and reset ECU
car ran fine for 2 kms
all of a sudden engine light came on and car went into limp mode

Current Problem

car goes into limp mode after short drive
is it possible that the rear O2 sensor has been wired up incorrectly?
engine oil and oil filter are changed every 5,000 kms
spark plugs are new with less than 1,000 kms on them
new HKS leads

Ongoing Problem

for the past 2.5 years, on cold starts car revs initially to 2200 rpm then it starts surging, hunting rolling between 1000 and 1500 rpm. The only way I can stop this from happening is by pressing the clutch and keeping it down. After a minute the car settles into the right rpm. Only then can I lift the clutch up. Numerous cars in the US have had this problem. It has been posted that the problem lies with the switch called the Starter Interlock Switch (diagram attached) which is attached to the clutch pedal.
Could these 2 problems be related or one causing the other? Could you please look into these matters for me?

Many thanks

Michael

[QUOTE=auzoom;2028443]
As for your problem, When a second hand engine costs $2500 and a rebuild is $2600 for a non RX8 13b (http://www.mazfix.com.au/engines/rebuildengines.html),

Andrew i rang Mazfix twice spoke to second in charge left my details etc never got a call back in 3 days even to quote me for a seal kit or a rebuild .

I KNOW HIS BUSSY WITH THE ANNUAL JAMBOORE BUT NOT GETTING A CALL BACK IN 3 DAYS IS BS.

One guy has had an RX8 engine rebuilt by Archie 3 times WHITOUT SUCCESS , Archie has not charger him per each engine rebuild , but that does not give me much confidence in his engine rebuilds .

He may know his stuff with RX7 but the RX8 is new for most Mechanicks

I know he has done some turbo kits on RX8 WITH VARIOUS RESULTS .

Cheers
Michael

OK, this is the way I see it. Your dealer just wants to see the back of you. I have no idea of the history you have with them, but I gather they've had enough. The 12K quote tells me as much.

I would not put too much weight behind the compression test results. First thing first.....get the exhaust issues sorted and get the car out of limp mode.

You need to find another dealership to sort this out.

I recommend GP Mazda in Aspley.

Everyone loves them. Maybe I should buy my car from there.....it's a nice time of year for a drive.

Flights to Brisvegas are cheap .

I have done the drive twice back to Melbourne with the RX8

If i go for another RX8 I will shop around and get the best deal , but as i have learnt if you dont buy or get your car serviced through the same dealer the other dealers dont want to know you .( If they cant make money of you they simply screw you )

With the complicated Engine management systems on all modern cars Car dealers have the car buying public by the *****

Michael, mention my name to Joe Camilleri (dealer principal) and he'll look after you.

We've bought all of our Mazdas from Grand Prix ...the 2, Luxury 6 hatch and now our 8.

I think Joe is one of the most genuine people you'll ever come across. Jake his son is just as genuine, and they operate out of Aspley and the Caboolture dealerships. If you go down that track you'll be impressed as I am.....

I think it is time to go to a different dealer, Michael. Hope you have a better experience at last.

Interesting discussion guys.

Whatever the causes may be, when you have to live through the kind of problems Michael has had with the car, it's understandable that he's a little gun-shy (sorry 'Mez, lol).

However, the vast majority have not had these problems and for me at least, there's still not another car on the market that does everything the RX8 can for the price and the looks.

So you bloody should be..... .

Hey, what do we think about the new wheels for the 40th Anniversary Edition RX-8?

The jury's out, I reckon......

I think they look good, but would look better as a larger rim with smaller profile tyre...I think my new rims will look better!

I tend to agree with Andrew - not a bad idea but size and rubber profile will make all the difference. Tough to comment without seeing a whole car shot too.

But what about that ugly badging!!!

Whole car shot:

I like the badge, but I don't think I like it there on the front guards. Might have been okay on the bootlid.

Not sure about the new wheel - I think the old wheel looks better than it is and at this angle the new wheel looks smaller than 18"

Whole car shot is the kiss of death for them IMHO. They look small - like the Target version of BBS rims.

And how high does that car look??!! Maybe I've gotten used to looking at mine but that thing looks like the softroader version!!

For four days and nights (18th to 21st October) theres one hell of a party on the gold coast.

"Cars scorching through bends and screaming down the straights. The earth shaking thunder of Australia’s V8 Supercars with Ford vs Holden laying it all on the line. And ninety-six hours of on and off track entertainment in one of the world’s most famous beach cities.

"The sweet sound of 750 horsepower at full throttle coupled with rolling surf, glamourous fun and and a week long party..."...I'm definately going....

Sorry Trev - I find V8 Supercars as boring as batshit.

And are they really Fords and Holdens anymore??? Does anyone really give a crap about what is nothing more than a marketing motivated rivalry??

Some (admittedly much younger) friends convinced me to jump on the Facebook bandwagon last week.

I can see how it would be useful for people with farflung mates and/or a loose social network but I fear most of my, ahem, older friends aren't in the demographic, lol.

Has anyone here bothered with it yet? Pros? Cons?

Currently debating whether to junk it or not.
