Lucky escape for my RX8
Travelling south of the Smith street overpassjust before getting on to the M1 PACIFIC HIGHWAY i noticed 3 cars stopped to my left , slowing down i noticed a car had rolled so i stopped behind a Toyota Hilux to try and give whatever assistance i could .
Parked my car about halve a car lenght directly behind the HILUX AS SOON AS I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE I realized that the hilux with its right hand indicator flashing , was reversing closer to me i quickly tooted the horn 3 times to no avail it kept on reversing picking up speed , i quickly started my car using my reverse gear thanks to( RP SHORT SHIFTER ) LAUNCHING IT BACKWARDS AT ABOUT 1800 revs as soon as i could i i put her in first and procedded to go around in front of the Hilux .
As soon as my car was secure having realised that the Hilux had NO F#$%ing driver in it i run to try and stop it from backing ontu traffic that was coming up behind it at around 80km per hour , waving frantically to stop the traffic whilst running towards the Hilux to try and regain control of the car well i finally managed to reach it hop in and start its engine and engage the gears bringing it to a stop .
I parked it behind my car the owner came running a few seconds later having seen his car rolling down the road the idiot forgot to put in gear and no handbrake , he was shaken and thanked me profusely for saving his car .
Man i would hate to have seen the damage it could have caused to my car as the front would have gone right under his tray stopping hopefully at my windscreen, possibly badly injuring myself and my eldest son
Recalling this to my WRX STI driving friend he told me that he would have been stuffed as once he switches his engine off he has to punch in a code to his car alarm before he can start his car , it would have been to late the Hylux would have smashed into his Subaru .
Stopping to give assistance sometimes can be hidden with danger , after getting home i quickly helped myself to a glass of whiskey to calm myself down , and thank however is in charge for saving my son myself and my car from harm .
cheers

Lucky indeed Michael,
I don't know if I would have had the wits to move as quickly as you did... And the guy left his keys in the truck too!!! It is certainly a good omen..

The car was occupied by two young girls around 20years of age they were very lucky to have escaped , cant figure out how you would loose control of a car and roll it on that piece of slight bend in perfect visibility and weather conditions doing 80-100km coming on to the pacific highway unless they were nuged by another car .
Both the girls were shaking like leaves , crying , and probably badly bruised , had the accident occured at night they most likely would not have been found so easily, it easily could have been fatal.
cheers

Remember not every car (or indeed driver) likes curves as much as our '8's and us. I was getting on the Centenary at Bardon yesterday on the single lane fly-over and took the bend at 60-ish (it's signed 40 I think), the Commodore that had been up my tail for a couple of hundred metres almost drifted into the wall at same speed and braked and fell back sharply. Needless to say it flew past me at about 110 in 90 zone shortly after.
Anyway back on topic, fortunately no one appears to have been seriously hurt.
Oh and the Hilux driver owes you a beer or two.

congrats on quick thinking, your lucky stars, and intelligence in getting an 8 and short shifter!
I will now show my love of my life why it is important to get a short shifter!
Sorta on topic, but the last few days, on the bend going up the hill near my place, 2 drivers on seperate days decided to change lanes on the bend, without looking, RIGHT INTO MY 8
Both times, they were doing 50 in a 60 zone, both times they just came out of their lanes as i was starting to overtake them on the right (2 lane road), and boty times they were YACKING on their mobile phones. Idiots.

Wow, that was close. I'm thrilled my shifter helped save a Rx8. Yellow one at that.
Great story writing also. This one will go down in the history of the shifter as the first (maybe last) save of the entire auto and it's driver/son.
I bet there are no other shifter builders with this story. Eat your hearts out Bob and Don.
Gotta find someone to tell this story to. Who do I call first? Bob or Don?

Ok who's Bob & Don....
And Michael, glad to hear you got out in one piece....maybe you can tell AM now and that the shifter is really an added safety device!

Good story. That's the reason I bought my short throw - safety. Wonder if my insurance will give me a discount?
I thought it was along the lines of Neil and Bob, and I'm not gonna touch that one.
