Luxury Car Tax Incresed..what now for the RX-8

Well the good old Labor Government is back in power and true to their Socialistic roots they fall in with tax increases.

So, the new RX-8 GT Model (I think this is what the Australia RS model will be called here) with all those extras will be way over $63K AU.

At the moment our Luxury car tax is 25% for all cars over $57,123.00, soon to go up another 8% to 33%.

So basically unless Mazda Australia lowers its retail price/margins which they could well and truly afford to do, I will make this call now.

The RX-8 is sales doomed...
You all know that I have been waiting and saving for the new 8, but I am seriously re considering my purchase...

1st, we have this ridiculous petrol slug, now $1.57 or $7.00 a gallon. (Some have said that in 5 years petrol will be $5 a litre!!)

2nd. this new increase in the Luxury car tax.
I would have thought that the Feds were going to remove it not increase the bloody thing.

Don't forget the 10% GST is also included.

What do you guys think about the future of the RX-8 and in fact any new rotary powered Mazda.

I am beginning to think that we won't even see a second generation 8!

Personally go out and buy a seconhand RX8 FOR $30,000 AND FI it buying a new RX8 in a declining economy with high inflation ,expensive fuel and running costs facing huge resale looses is silly learn from our mistakes go preloved

Cheers

Its only a guess but I think the **** retards at Mazda Australia are starting to understand the Aussie public know the Japs & Yanks pay $30k for these things NEW.

Perhaps they may price the Series-II a little more reasonably & achieve successful sales numbers rather than fleecing the buyer for everything he has got.

Most of us don't pay that much new. Maybe 22-26k is the average. I paid 31k but I had a lot of options and I bought the RX-8 before they were heavily discounted

Michael is right Ash - in your circumstances, why not just buy a good used example and enjoy it?

Yeah I know, Don't get me wrong I can get the new 8, and as you know I am pissed at what all manufacturers do here in Australia with their pricing...IT IS WRONG!.

I mean why isn't the ACCC asking questions at GMH, how can a car that is 98% the same sell for $30K cheaper in the US than the country of it's origin.

Also guys as an ex Mazda man I would never buy any second hand
Rotary. Unless extremely low mileage.

My last gripe is fuel, sorry but I am almost 100% certain that this will be the last Rotary for some time until or if hydrogen finds its way at the local garage. (Not). There won't be a new rotary as it just won't sell. My local has a new anniversary that's been on the floor for near 6 months, they sell around 100 new Mazda's a month.

$2.00 a litre by Christmas or $8.80 a gallon!!, bye V8's and Renny.
