Mazda Service Issue

I bought my car at Westend Mazda North Parramatta, I have had it serviced there since new and have not had any major issues, however on my last service I did.
As you may know I got new disks and pads yesterday, this was prompted by the fact that my Mazda service centre informed me only 2 weeks ago that my front brakes only had 10% left and would only last about another 1000km.
So off I went and got everything organised for the replacement, anyway after my mechanic replaced everything he then said "I am not sure who told you to replace your pads because they have 50% left".

I got him to show me the pads and sure enough he was right. There was a smidge under 50% left, no where near needing replacement.

Up until yesterday I was happy to pay a premium for service knowing that it was mazda service technicians working on my car, that it was trained people who would provide me with a higher level of service than I would get from "Jack of all trade" mechanics. How wrong could I have been. I can assure you that the days of $300 for a regular service are gone, the guys at my Mazda service centre don't know s#!t. I am now going to my regular mechanic from now on, atleast he knows what he is doing.

Just thought I would let everyone know about my experience because it pays to get a second opinion and not just take Mazda's word for it.

Gibbo.

I will never trust the guys about their report. I love them overcalling things though. Say break pad need changing and rotor is thin... that is my excuse to my Mrs. :D to change to DBA rotor and Project Mu pads.

I never change manufacturer's item... it is so expensive and overpriced. The only thing I use from Mazda is their rotary oil. I don't even have their oil filter (I brought my own).

The reason I go back to dealer for service is the stamp. Something easy for them to install or get the re flash (which I am going this Sat).

Good ... now I reminded myself to bring sCANalyser to check if they have reflashed my car.

I would ask to speak to the dealer principle about this. Let it be known you spent all this money because they said it was needing replacement soon. Don't forget to toss in you got the aftermarket pads because if you only had 10% left on the factory pads you felt they were a ripoff too cost that much and only last as long as they did. Now you find out differently.

If they want to even hope to keep your business I would think they should at least offer you the next service for free!

Where do you think we live?? The US??
This is a highly unlikely response from any Mazda dealer in Aust.. I would imagine the best you could hope for is "Ooops! sorry"

I remember being told years ago that Japanese cars are reliable but the parts and service is as dear as poison while Aussie cars weren't put together as well but the parts and service were cheaper.

Sounds like the first part is still true.

Would love to see a sticky from someone who knows a hell of a lot more than I do listing the various alternatives for consumable parts like brake pads, oil filters, etc. I know there has been a thread going about brake pads but a ready reference in a prominent location on the forum would be great for those of us who are yet to suffer as the more experienced guys have.

...er, after I complained about oil overfilling at one of my services (think it was 10K), I paid for parts and consumables only at the next (20K). It pays to be polite, but assertive.
