I just watched it. A few things I learnt.....
Gomez.
- Americans say Marsda...not Mazda!
- To prevent flooding if engine is not up to temp, rev to 3K for 10 secs, return to idle, then shut off.
- They have weird petrol pumps (bowsers) in the US.
- Marsda still aren't recommending synthetic!
- Red RX-8's are recommended in the USA.

long time reader first time poster.
a few little things made me decide to post.
simple, Synthetic oil doesnt burn too well, and in a very short time, the buildup of unburnt oil will foul plugs! and other sensors.
1st pointer, Rotarys run a very hot exhaust! just go for a long freeway run of about 5 hrs, and the exhaust ports will be glowing red hot!
when you shut it off at 3K rpm, the engine will draw in a good amount of the air fuel mix, this will not be ignited, and quickly pass into the exhaust! and go BANG!! wont do any harm, just scare the ***** out of you!

The 3k thing I did know about actually, but I can't see the point in returning to idle before shutting off. I realise the engine will spool down without the MOP injecting oil if I shut off at 3k, but I don't see that as an issue. So why back to idle before shutoff?

Shutting off at 3K doesn't cause a bang, either......

my rotors are older ones, (RX-7's) hmmm i might do some more research into synthetic, might be because of the new generation of platinum plugs that dont foul...
if i hold the 7 at 3K, and kill the ignition it will rattle windows for a good 2 blocks! when it backfires. Do the 8's run a catalytic converter or thermal reactor??
all rotaries will get hotter exhaust as there is a exhaust charge into the sytem 3 times per rotor revolution, wheas a piston is on 1 per 4 strokes.

Each rotor has one exhaust discharge per engine revolution, not 3. The rotor's orbit is 1/3 the speed of the eccentric shaft. Where as a 4-stroke piston engine has one exhaust discharge every 2 engine revolutions. Strokes are not revolutions, it is a reference to the operating cycle. As you know, a rotary is still a 4-cycle (otto-cycle) engine, loosley termed "4-stroke".
Also - why doesn't synthetic oil burn as well as mineral oil? Not that mineral oil "burns" that readily anyway

me want me want....
I can give you a copy mikeyr. In fact, I will work out the cost of sending a copy out in Australia and New Zealand and you can PM me for one.
$1 for disc, $2 for case, $6.50 postage (express in Australia and air mail in New Zealand)
How about round it up to $12 for direct debit and $15 for PayPal? Fair? You see I am not making any profit here.
PM me if you want one.

Platinum atomic weight....195.078 g/mol
The Iridium plug has a smaller electrode too, so we've got the lightest plug around :D .
