Mid-pipe & Catback for Revolvermobile

I'm considering getting a new mid-pipe and catback exhaust for the Revolvermobile.

I know plenty have fitted aftermarket catbacks, but we've not heard from many (in the Aussie forum at least) who have done the mid-pipe as well.

I'm interested to hear from everyone who's gone that far. Kindly advise what you've got, how much, availability, pros, cons.

I don't want anything that sits lower than the OEM mid-pipe for clearance reasons.

So let's hear from you, exhausted people...

Cat or midpipe... most JDM exhaust fitted people will have a mid pipe.

Is midpipe not the catalyst... right... you are referring to this part of the exhaust.

Most people with a JDM exhaust will have this one changed. They offer the best chance to gain anything. My fujitsubo claims 3kW atw. I don't have a pre and post dyno to prove it.

When you tune the car, better to have midpipe and muffler changed, according to guru in Japan.

Yes Taka - that's what I'm talking about - the section you have circled.

I want to replace from there back (i.e. not the cat itself).

What are my JDM options? I'm not hugely fussed about precisely how much power I'll gain, because we all know it is marginal. More interested in a quality fit and finish and avoiding anything too low or anything that drones at freeway speeds, etc.

OK to start with, I believe that mid pipe generally refers to the whole section in the middle of the exhaust system, ie between the muffler and the exhaust manifold.

hiflo cat midpipe http://www.rx7store.net/product_p/rx...flow%20cat.htm

catless midpipe http://www.rx7store.net/product_p/rx...%20midpipe.htm

catless but resonated midpipe http://www.rx7store.net/product_p/rx...%20midpipe.htm

Are you saying you dont want to change the cat? if not then why do it?

Also, be aware that your muffler/cat back exhaust may affect what mid pipe you can use or the work involved in fitting it. Eg the one taka pointed out will not fit even an OEM muffler without some serious mods to one of the components.

Cheers

Andrew

Just buy the combo from Japan.

I have a Fujitsubo, but HKS, Re Amemiya, R magic, FEED, Knightsports, Greddy/Trust, etc etc...

Start going to the exhaust page of the other parts of the site. All Japanese ones has midpipe attached.

Gday revolver. I have done the midpipe and cat and aldo think that there is little point in changing midpipe without also doing the cat and for that matter a good catback exhaust too. Here is the link with the dyno sheets and details of what I have done.http://www.smb.net.au/fullexhaustsystems-mazdarx8.htm . I think most of the gain comes from the new cat and exhaust/midpipe complementing the increased flow.I cannot see anything being gained with just a midpipe(unless the cat is removed!which is very illegal). The clearance is maybe 1 or 2 centimetres lower than stock, nothing that will ever be an issue..Hope this helps.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I had my reasons for wanting to replace from the mid-pipe back (which I don't really want to ventilate in here) but I see the point of replacing the cat as well if I'm going to do it.

I like the look and quality of the SMB system.

I'll toss it around some more and look at some other options.
