More Zoom!
Last night I was driving home from work and got to a quiet patch of road. As usual I decided to have a bit of a "play". The car accelerated as normal until it hit 7,000rpm - it then took off - WOW. In saying this I don't mean like it has hit vtec or a turbo boost but it definitely got a second set of legs.
This is the interesting bit. I looked down at the odometer and it showed the car had covered 5,002 klms! Maybe at 5000klms the ecu flips to a less conservative setting? I was going to test again this morning on my way to work but didn't get the chance due to the traffic.
Has anyone else felt this change in their car?

hi rx-8 - smooth
i read this on the usa forum. people reach 3000 miles and the car feels different. i was waiting for someone to reach 5000km to see if there was a difference.
i can't wait for 5000km!
some usa guys have dyno'd their rx-8 after 3000 miles and have registered rated BHP assuming standard losses from flywheel to tyres.
BTW how much of a difference was there? VERY noticable?
cheers

Hi Mike,
Thanks for your reply. How much difference? Hard to say based on this one instance.
The best way to describe the change is that the engine felt like it was breathing better. The power increase just seem to keep going as the revs increased instead of levelling off after hitting 6'500 rpm
I hope this helps - I will post again after I have tried out the car a few more times.

I drove up to Armidale last friday and passed the 5,000K also.
Must admit the car was really flying... and my wife feels the engine is a bit louder.
So... don't know...but interesting... might have a play this weekend.

I now have 6,200k on the clock, and also noticed a slightly deeper exhaust note in recent days. As for power, can't say I can tell. If I floor it in 2nd, 3rd or 4th, I can always scare myself.:D
