Most fuel squeezed into a RX-8 tank
A few of you may have read my exploits of running on "E" for enough. When I fill up and I only can fit 59 litres in I get pissed off that I still had 2 or 3 left to use
!
For the 3rd tank in a row I have now gone over 500km! And tonight I think I achived a sort of refuelling nirvana. I coasted into the servo of choice out of petrol
Although I was a bit pissed off I needed to brake a bit to not roll past the bowser (Beyond Petroleum :D )
And the winning figures are:
Litres: 62.15![Smilie](https://www.rx8club.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Now I know the km is not a record, but for the sake of completness, I covered 519km with the previous 62.15 litres. 11.98 l/100km. A few traffic jams this week as well.
So who wants to raise the bar past 62.15 litres? If you count the 5l you put in the mower fuel tin you are automatically disqualified :p
Cheers,
Hymee.

Re: Most fuel squeezed into a RX-8 tank
Lastnight i filled up and the pump kept stopping so I had to squeeze it less to get it to work.. well when the tank filled it didn't automatically stop pumping. I was talking on the phone at the time.. so I pumped 15.6 gallons.. Don't know if that counts towards the record! I had to wash my car right then. That sucked.

It's not good to jump from 30 feet in the air covered with gasoline on fire into a 30 foot pool of water, or climb up a wall to a third floor balcony, or jump from one moving car to a parked one either but that didnt stop me before !

That's in the UK, i'm in the US. It obviously doesn't apply! Not to mention that I'm an AMERICAN and fires wouldn't DARE harm me.
But thanks for the advice. I'll remember that next time.

I think it might even be against the law here, but not sure. There are warning signs on the bowsers, and the console operators crack the ***** if you use a phone while filling.

Hymee.

For god sake. Put your mobile phone safe at all time!
There is a guy on the newspaper years ago that has his pants on fire when the phone in his pocket started to ring while he is filling up!!!!
His has gone to Alfred burns unit ---- not telling you the detail of damage but skin grafting to the area is involved.

I knew that he was joking... using mobile phone while filling up is not funny though.
I guess 11-12L/100km is very respectable figure. It seems to be what everything is getting.
So I concluded for my car anyway
100% highway (going to Traralgon to work) 10.5L/100km @110kmh
85% highway (from Berwick to Balwyn @ mum's place) 12L/100km
20% highway (when I was @ Southbank) 15L/100km
0% highway (from Southbank to RMH) 20L/100km
Trackway 29L/100km
Hymee what do you think?

That Mobile phone while filling up is a myth. There is a show called Mythbusters that proved it wrong. There are fires at the browsers (or pumps) but most of them are caused from static electricity.
Can anyone site an actual case where a cell phone caused a fire?

Hymee, aren't you worried about sludge and crap getting sucked into your fuel system? I thought you had learnt that lesson
![Wink](https://www.rx8club.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)
I have put 59L in, and was not happy to have run that low. I drove 75k after the fuel light came on.
After Wakefield, I put just over 65L through the pump but that included 5L for L&L's emergency can. I was worried about going that low, too. Especially after subjecting the car to the G forces of the track day. But... no problem.
Does anyone know what accuracy fuel bowsers must have?

Ever heard of a chap called Marconi? Thought so. Do you remember why he was so well known? Something about radio? You're right. However, many forget that Marconi's first experiments were conducted with a spark generator and receiver. Ok, so the cellphone is a little more complicated than his spark generator, but the output was still the same thing - radio waves. We are going to get technical for a paragraph; When one sticks the petrol bowser nozzle in the filler a serious resemblance to a resonant cavity begins to form. Should the nozzle be at the correct depth, the point at which it enters the filler becomes a high impedance point i.e. a place where, in the presence of sufficient RF energy (hey, is the antenna not a metre or so away?), a large voltage could be generated. So all that is required is a tuned circuit that is near the cellphone's transmitter frequency, and this tuned circuit has a small gap where a spark could happen (in essence a spark receiver), and this gap is filled with a mixture of petrol vapour and oxygen, and..... groin injury - ouch!!!
Do you read Nexus magazine by any chance? Ever been abducted by aliens? Did Brocky's polarizer seem like a good idea?

Oooh - so many questions.
Even if you get 1000km out of a tank, that is not the competion here. If you squeezed more than 62.15 litres in, then you claim the title![Smilie](https://www.rx8club.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
I had a full tamk of petrol when that shitty fuel went through. And if my fuel filter is going to cost $600 at my 60k service, I'm gunna make sure it has been doing some work!! Theroticially I would have less sludge in the bottom of my tank as it gets so diluted each time I fill it up from so empty. But only put Ultimate in it, and it commands 9c / litre more than ULP, so if I get any ****, they will be the next on my shitty petrol hit list!
I see what my mobile phone does to my monitor and radio when it rings, so it is obviously inducing some electrical energy. If there is any chance of it making a spark, well I'd rather not take the risk.
Yeah - I got the joke, but I couldn't help myself anyway.
Cheers,
Hymee.

hey, if its worth anything.
I get 600km from the 20B powered JC Cosmo (100% hwy)
Just a pity its an 85 Litre tank...........
Now, for the Electro Magnetic Propagation issue. As an RAAF trained & qualified "Radio electronics engineer" I can tell you that the theory behind the "blurb" from before is accurate to a point. The practice however is faulted.
In reality, the only way you are going to get a spark from the mobile phone is by placing it against the filler neck mere millimetres away. The static charge then has to be below the filler as the fuel vapors are heavier than air & seep downward. Its flash point is much lower than normal air. Then, perhaps if you are lucky. You can get a spark large enough to generate the flash over.

With fuel prices in Brisbane currently shooting @ $1.09 for Premium, I managed to squeeze 60 litres in for a grand total of $65.40 tonight.
The days of getting stiffed $1.70 a litre are over for a while, and my saved bucks will now go towards more worthwhile pursuits...
