It is easy to get under 10l/100km on a flat highway with cruise control on but it is mindnumbingly boring.
I have made it from Stanthorpe to Warwick with the light on. More than 60km.
I am thinking about driving to Sydney before Xmas. If I do I will travel;
Murwillumbah-Kyogle-Casino-Grafton-Armidale-Gloucester-Sydney or maybe even the Putty Road.
The Pacific Highway drives me mad. After driving on Autobahns last month our freeways seem ridiculous.

On last years trip to SYD-MEL-SYD I scored 600km from the tank at a steady 3000rpm (see video)
>>>RX-8 cruising home video<<<
Running under the E mark for almost 40km, I coasted into a servo & squezzed 60lt into it sitting on flat ground.
Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the RX-8 a 61lt tank & if so. How did Hymee get 62.1lt into it........??

A different diff?
120 would be 3750 rpm in mine. 3000 is 97.

62.15 liters. That's a lot. If you fill up to the top of the filler tube, isn't that bad for the evaporative system? I've heard that if gas, rather than just fumes, backs up into the canister, it can eventually degrade the charcoal, and little bits can then get stuck in valves causing them to stick open ... expensive to replace.
Or is that just another myth?

I've run out that many times I've lost count. No guts, no glory I say. Lol. I might run out again this morning, but I've got a pretty good idea I'll make it.
The whole point of my first post was that it did run out of fuel as I was approaching the servo, and I did coast up to the pump without the engine running, hence the "nirvana" comment. The only bad thing was that I did have to use the brakes as I got to the pump, hence I could have gone a bit further. What a waste!!!
Cheers,
Hymee.

Hymee, you seriously need to get out more!
I think I've pumped in a touch over 60 once after pushing my luck a lot longer than it usually holds out (luck and I aren't friends and never have been). But generally I'm a good boy and fill up shortly after the little yellow light tells me to. Running out of fuel is stress I don't need...

A bunch of mates from school and I used to surf the south coast in our first cars. One bloke, noted for being mean with money, always used to push it with fuel and ran out on us a number of times, meaning one of the other cars in the group had to do a fuel run and double back. Getting money out of him for the fuel was even harder.
One day, after we had warned him about it, he did it again. His passengers promptly piled into the other two cars and we left him there - in the middle of Royal National Park. Took him 6 hours to get home. He never did it again...

I was lucky with my second car - a 1961 VW which had a fuel gauge PLUS a lever to switch over to the reserve tank. I was also lucky because Dad ran the service workshop when VW had an assembly plant at Clayton. I never had a car so perfectly looked after. I remeber driving from Melbourne to Adelaide for the jazz convention over New Year, and getting 50mpg. I think that translates to about 5.6L/100km, using the conversion to imperial gallons. We've come a long way since then, haven't we?

120,000k on my and never had the fuel filter done (either that or the dealer forgot to charge me LOL). I always drive from full to fumes. Still can't top your effort though. Just under 60 litres is my best effort

Oooh - so many questions.
Even if you get 1000km out of a tank, that is not the competion here. If you squeezed more than 62.15 litres in, then you claim the title![Smilie](https://www.rx8club.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
I had a full tamk of petrol when that shitty fuel went through. And if my fuel filter is going to cost $600 at my 60k service, I'm gunna make sure it has been doing some work!! Theroticially I would have less sludge in the bottom of my tank as it gets so diluted each time I fill it up from so empty. But only put Ultimate in it, and it commands 9c / litre more than ULP, so if I get any ****, they will be the next on my shitty petrol hit list!
I see what my mobile phone does to my monitor and radio when it rings, so it is obviously inducing some electrical energy. If there is any chance of it making a spark, well I'd rather not take the risk.
Yeah - I got the joke, but I couldn't help myself anyway.
Cheers,
Hymee.
