My dealer says "what upgrade"
Hi Guys,
My car was purchased in Feburary tihs year (built in January 04 according to the plate).
It had its first service last week and I told the dealer to make sure they did the ECU upgrade and to call Mazda if they didn't know about it.
The dealer did that, and said there was no upgrade for my car. He said his WDS CD was only two weeks old, and he called Mazda and the guy said that any upgrades only applied to the US models.
Am I getting a bum steer here? Has anyone got some hard copy docs I can take into the dealer?
Thanks,
Deano

Deano,
Your car, being so new, would already have a version "F" calibration from what we currently know.
It appears (from sco's experience) that the "F" has only just tricked through to the dealer network via the WDS updates.
Before we confirm that the latest WDS calibration is "F", can someone who has one of the newer cars check the oil gauge sweep test? (Turn ignition on - 20 pumps of the brake pedal within 8 seconds - watch for oil gauge sweep)
We have another thread where we have documented what is the earliest known build number/date of the F flash, and it can be found here: https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...5&pagenumber=7
Cheers,
Hymee.

Hymee... I think we already have the answer. If you look through Gomez's posts in the thread you linked to you can derive:
1. He has the "F" flash from the factory
2. He doesn't get the oil needle sweep when resetting the NVRAM using the flea scratch pedal trick

Mine doesn't do the needle trick, tried it a while ago. Maybe that only works for cards that have been "upgraded" - rather than for models that shipped with the latest chip?

I have a Jan build date too and would like to find out what version ECU I have and get the upgraded flash if it's avaliable. My 10000k service will come up soon I'd like any feed back about which service centers are offering good service and which would be most helpful with the re-flashing.
I tried the brake thingy before but didn't get any needle sweep does it mean I don't have the latest version?
At my 1000K service I asked rockdale service and told me that they didn't know of any upgrade either.

OK - good suggestion sco.
Me thinks the value of a forum like this shows when we can tell the Service Manager what the latest Cal is for our cars!!
No offence meant, groover. I'm sure you can provide us lots of valuable input.
Cheers,
Hymee.
