My new toy - Black RX-8

hey guys,

been on here for a few weeks now, great forum for fellow australian rx-8 owners.

anyway, got a black rx-8 non-leather pack in mid december. this is my third mazda and first rotary engined mazda. believe it or not, it is the only brand new one i could find in sydney. only mods so far are a set of 19 x 8.5 front & 19 x 9.5 rear with 245/35 & 275/30 tyres and dark tint. suspension, new colour and new interior are decided and will be carried out throughout the year.it is a great car, enjoyed very much. have only done close to 900km so far, but im sure i will put more km's on soon! the engine is ultra smooth (i have already been offered a sponsorship to have it turbocharged with a t67 setup, but i turned it down... for the timebeing..... i want realiability!) and loved the doors. i had my eyes on this thing since it came out at the sydney motorshow a couple of years ago as the concept car. my girlfriend was going to put the deposit down then, but i had to drag her away from the mazda stand.

however, there are few thing i found annoying.......
1. the air cond isnt as cold compared to my other piston engine cars. i will raise this issue with the service department when i go in for the 1,000km service.

2. the front cup holders, my elbow hits the drink when i change gears, its annoying. they are too close!

3. it is an attractive car, get looks all the time, and sometimes it can be annoying (people tried to make eye contact with you and pointing at the car), thats why i got the dark tint done.

4. fuel efficiency, it sux. i know it will drink alot more for the frist few thousand km's, but at the moment this thing is so bloody thirsty! maybe because i have the air cond on all the time?!? :p

apart from that, it is an amazing car!

looking forward to seeing you people out there. maybe we should have a sydney outing soon?!?

eric

ps. here are some earlier shots of the 8!

Welcome EZZY.

Those are some big fat tyres man! Hats off.

I have found my fuel economy has settled down at around 13-14 l/100km. Of course I drive with a pretty heavy foot too - how could you not in this car. On the highway it gets down to 10l/100km. Not as good as my old 4cly, but certainly not appauling compared to a V8 or an 4WD.

A Sydney drive should definately be on the cards in the up-coming months now that people's lives are slowly returning to normal after the holidays. It should be a pretty impressive turn out when it happens!

lol! Well, I think I'm going to be happy with the economy. Coming from the Jeep Wrangler where I averaged a tad over 16 l/100. 12-14 will be a nice change :-)

Hi eric, welcome to the forum

Great looking car -- methinks pepe is already planning on a set of those wheels :p. pepe???

As to the issues you raise, well, on (1) my advice is just to use the climate control and fiddle with raising/lowering the set temperature -- it will cool things down a treat (of course, the black colour may be an issue :p )
2 - the cupholders, ditto with you -- it just means you don't drink AND drive -- even water!
3 - clearly you are an introvert -- that's ok
4 - no one can seriously say they bought this car for fuel efficiency. Or, if they did, that idea goes out the door the first time you red line it through 1st, 2nd & 3rd :D

Have fun -- we are! :D :D :D

Ha, I want a set of 19" Volks :D

My aircon is fine in a black one, comes on within seconds, turns it into a fridge...

I know it's a pain in the bum question EZZY, but could you take a couple more pictures specifically of the wheels please?

You forgot to fuzz a plate in the last pic too

Just use the drink holders in the rear instead - works for me.

z88m, thanks for the advise, but the rear cup holders are pretty far to reach.:D

eric

the front drink holders are best used for radio's

fuel econ - is that the speed with which the red pointy thing moves towards the E for enough end of the tank? I swear I've seen the f*cking thing move real time during redline

what exactly is ezzy-style.com.au ?? I was going to crawl and index it but it's just pix right now.. sigh.. ( http://WebSearch.COM.AU is a pet project )

drives, DND's usually happen on Wednesday nights but these days I'm up for drives any time frankly..

the rear holders by the way don't spill full open cans of drink even at approx 45 degree drifts - ain't that neat!?

the read box best used for cd jewl cases..

over loading your coin tray on the far right will results in underfoot coins if you hit a decent bump

were you on river road at either 2:20'ish heading west or around 5:20'ish heading east this afternoon by any chance?

I was the low flying blue "thing" practicing my quantum mechanics overtaking theory of everything * grin *

I was also attempting to broadcast to mars without the assistance of a large scale parabolich dish, and I'm pretty sure that the little BOSE parabolic's are capable of it if you work them up to hat mars broadcast depth setting MAX * grin *
