You guys were tearing it up out there for sure.

Bigger ones than me.
Maybe someday I will get the nerve to take it to the limit like that.
The wife made me promise I would bring the car back in one piece.

Good to meet you too Danny and look forward to receiving updates on the monster MX5 you're building. Suggest you start a thread on it - I'm sure others would be interested.

Thanks for the feedback on tyre choices - that's kind of what I figured. Also appreciated your tips on the double apex corner - that sure helped me. In hindsight, I should have asked you to ride shotgun for a few laps to see what else I was doing wrong (assuming we could narrow that down! ).

Let us know if you get down to 63 secs...

I learnt a lot about semis in my first outing and I should be able to use it more confidently over time. In my first morning run I had around 36 PSI cold and the car was very unstable towards the end of the session. I could not go over 150 on the straight as the car felt like it was going to shoot off the track. At this stage I was thinking that the tyres was a bad investment.

After speaking with a few people about this I reduces my cold temperature down to 30 PSI and the difference was quire noticeable and I was able to hit a top speed of 180 at the end of the front straight. The cornering was also fantastic.

Semis also give me a lot of confidence as the it grips the road well. Around corners the drift was consistent unlike road tires that tend to grip and give, which leaves you you wondering when it will spin.

In my last round I was starting to trust the grip and taking higher speeds on the kink in the straight. With more practice and confidence you could keep the foot to the floor all the way to the first corner. ( I was backing off once I reached the control tower)

I think you drove really well Sailesh. Good on you.

I noticed some difference when I let some air out of my street tyres too. I had them down to 30 cold in the end.

I ended up topping out at about 175km/h before courage deserted me. Never got the ***** to keep it flat through the kink but did graduate from braking before it to just a mild lift off before entry and then getting back on it on exit, so I was back to 160 plus before having to brake for the double apex corner.

Actually, I found it more interesting to see what kind of speed I could manage along the back of the circuit before having to brake for Hungry. I got it into the 150's a few times and felt there was a lot of room for improvement.

I got that same feeling but that change in elevation through there kept me spooked for some reason and my instincts were to let off. I tired to suppress that a few times and just plow through there but I still got a little timid.

I think it could have been taken a lot faster.
Curious as to what Rod and Danny were doing back there.

Thanks Dave, I was also trying to gain time through the back as the front was being policed by the official with his noise meter. I finally managed to go flat out under the bridge and hit 160 before going into hungry corner.

There was so much to look out for on this track as you had the noise guy patrolling the boundary, corner entry speeds, kinks in the track and cough, cough slower cars...never a dull moment.

I don't understand why they do that on a race track in a country down miles away from public.

There are houses around Lakeside.
They built a tack in the middle of no where years ago and people moved in and built houses around the track and then complained because there was a track there.

GO figure.

It's not miles away from the public actually Taka. Private properties surround the circuit....the circuit was closed for near on 8 years....so they got use to complete quiet...then lobbied Queensland Raceway management to impose a 95 dB limit when it re-opened for Club use!

Cheers,
Danny

95dB from pit lane sounds fair, so it is about as much as a catless car can pass. There is no point for measuring road cars I would have thought.

My standing at trackside measuring dB sounds like the right way to do it. And skc should have no fear of exceeding the sound limit.

I got busted earlier at 98db down the straight and consequently got black flagged.

The managers of the track have just been allowed to use the track this year provided they maintain the noise limit...that is why they are so paranoid. Once they win the court case to reopen the track they reckon they will be able to increase the noise limit to around 100db.

We where also dubious about how they measured the noise as there was a lot of rebound noise off the hill and barriers.

I still think the decibel readings were questionable, and no-one convince me there wern't any mitigating factors affecting those readings. Did anyone notice old mate with the yellow hat was getting more infringements when he was standing behind the 4 foot fence?

IMHO noise is less likely to be amplified in an open area compared to an area where there are barriers which could amplify the sound...

When sounds bounces off a wall or cliff the amplitude (dB) will drop significantly.

A good meter I thought is a big investment. I did not know it is that cheap
http://www.emovendo.net/magnet/decib...er-ar-824.html

EDIT: better still there is one for iPhone http://www.51spsoft.com/DownInfo/info30087.html

****: EDIT: I was going to see if my N95 has a program similar. But I found out that ringtone of N95 is very loud.

Ring Volume (10.53)
To test ring volume we set the phone to maximum volume and choose the loudest ring tone on the device. We then use a sound pressure meter to measure the ring volume in decibels. The Nokia N95 scored an incredible 105.3 decibels in this test. This is by far the loudest ring volume we have measured to date, far louder the LG Chocolate's 88.7 decibels. You won't be missing any calls if you turn the ring volume on the N95 to its maximum level, although you may want to turn it down a tad for the sake of those poor souls that are nearby when it goes off.
My phone is banned on the track

Well what got to me was when I booked the track and talked to them about the noise limit I was told and I quote.

" The measurement will be taken 8 meters behind the car at 5000 RPM. We have had cars with open headers pass the test. "

Now once we paid the money and were on the track they changed how the reading was taken.

I argued that point with the guy taking the readings and he said he called Keith the boss and was told to take readings around the track and make sure no where did we break the 95db level.

So I was a bit upset but not much I could at that point other than go along or as I was told we could all pack up and go home.

Sorry about the ones that got busted for noise but I did try and plead the case.

Thanks for that Monte. I was surprised that so many of us got caught out in street legal cars.

Was less than impressed by their 'take it or leave it' attitude too. They may get money out of clubs once but not twice with that kind of 'stiff ****' approach. Ditto on taking money for track licences when many of us had level 2 Cams licences - a rip off.

Never mind - organising these things is a learning experience.

Can only agree with the sentiments expressed here. Now way my car was 98db

I also paid up for the track licence after being told my CAMS one wouldn't cut it.

But all this said I wouldn't have missed it for the world. Most fun I've had with my clothes on for a long time

Reiterate my thanks to one and all for organising and pulling off a great event.

Cheers
Tony

Nice pics Mikey.

95 dB would have been OK if they measured it at 25m like they do for Mt Cotton.

Have a read of this gem...

http://www.queenslandraceway.com.au/...t_lakeside.pdf

None of that was offered to us. And I got pinged on my first flying lap - hardly "consistently". At least I only got pinged once. Made for a pretty sedate 1:12 though. I don't know how you guys get time to look at the speedo

Cheers,
Hymee.

Although I appreciate their problem, operating a track like that is very restrictive. Bit like getting entry to an all you can eat buffet and then being told you can only have the salad. Why bother?
