Unhappy Nearly Flooded My Engine

After two shorter trips to shop and to pick up my son from school , i nearly flooded my engine .

Not a happy experience , luckily after the 3rd attempt it fired up .

I have just printed out the SERVICE BULLETIN :

Called Engine cranks no start .

ISSUED 11/3/04 IN THE TECH GARAGE UNDER Have you flooded your renesis .?

There is ten pages on this bulletin well worth keeping handy in your car , i did not believe that this could happen to me but it nearly did .

Some members of the forum believe that MAZDA Australia can do no wrong , as yet the only bulletin i got was one on correct procedure in checking my oil level , i recieved this when i first got my car .

MAZDA Australia does not seem to want to keep its customers notified on aspects of the RX8 that are not in its best interest .

Thank goodness for information on this forum , otherwise most rotary members would know jack **** .

In my eyes MAZDA AUSTRALIA has clearly failed in keeping customers informed .

Its like pulling teeth getting anyhonest information from them .

As i am heading OFF to Melbourne in APRIL, after my drive day at WAKEFIELD AND A SHORT STAY IN SYDNEY i will try and see the head OF mazda Malcolm Gough and talk with him , relating some of the RX8 issues .

cheers
michael

L&L,

The other day on the phone you told me you had difficulty starting, described a few symptoms, and I remember you had battery problems a while ago.

Tell me, was the starter spinning the engine over normally and it didn't fire, or was it having trouble truning the engine over?

Cheers,
Hymee.

I've had a few funny starts on mine normaly when the car has been warmed up then left in the sun and started a few hours later. I twist the key and the starter spins up but the motor dosn't fire straght away. I hold the key round for a few seconds more than usual and the release it and the engine fires on the release not the twist.

Hehehe.

I never really knew what the beig deal about flooding was, and the subsequent "procedure" to fix it. Since before I was a young driver with my first car, I knew the best way to un-flood (de-choke) then engine was to crank it at WOT.

Another interesting thing is that this TSB refers to Calibration ID's. I'm going to go back and check mine at the dealer again, as the format of the ID shown on the bulletin (N3H6EK00013H6020)is different than what showed up for mine (N3J618881F)

The TSB also says the calibration "letter" is the digit after the "E"

The mystery deepens.

Cheers,
Hymee.

Hang on Michael!

The owner's manual, on p7-20, gives you a procedure for "Starting a Flooded Engine", so I am not sure what your initial criticism was about

Sure, it is not as detailed as that TSB (which is very interesting but is what I would expect to find in a manual.

I just checked the wife's Calais and can't find anything in the General's manual.
