Well got my winning blue baby yesterday and boy that blue is one of the best blues i have ever seen on a car.
However on delivery i was only given one key because i was told that it only turned up with one key. Call me paranoid but i dont like the thought that there is another key like mine out there somewhere. Anyone else have a similar experience ?

You got to MAKE them produce that second key......
The problem IS - you can't buy and program a key unless you first put in TWO PROGRAMMED KEYS.
Your car is a paperweight if you lose your only key.
To program a new key, you have to put in TWO 'chipped' keys that come with the original car, THEN you can program a new key. (security, a valet with ONE key can't program a new key himself.)
The grey key is the valet key, and will do if it's all you have as a second key. The only difference is, it won't open the glovebox, passthru or trunk.
Bottom line - no second key, you will have to replace the ECU (computer). The new one will come with TWO keys.

I received two black keys (each with keyless entry) and one gray key without keyless entry. The two black keys are fully functional and the gray key is the valet key. If you lock your glove compartment and trunk passthrough your valuables are safe from valet's or anyone you may let use your car, provided you give them the valet key. With the valet key, they can only drive the car and lock the doors. The trunk, glove box, or passthrough cannot be openned with the gray key. That's my understanding as the dealer informed me and I verified it with experience. I don't know if you only got one black key because of the various packages (i.e. with/without keyless entry), but I receive two black keys which I thought was common practice with all new cars.

Doctorr beat me to it, but yes he is absolutely correct. Also, there is a button in the glove box that prevents the trunk from being opened with the keyless entry, in the event that you give the valet the gray key along with the keyless entry remote. And yes, you do NEED both keys.

What Doctorr said.
When I picked up my key, the dealer had at first misplaced the second set, and caused some turmoil in the dealership getting people to find it, because, describing the process in Doctorr's above, a replacement set would have been somewhat expensive for the dealership, and inconvenient for me.
Tell 'em to get their act together!

Thanks for the info guys ,
My key is a black one. The dealer said that if they couldnt find the second key then they would program two new keys at my first service but from what i'm reading here they can't do this without the second key anyway. Catch 22 situation. In the meantime if i misplace my only key i guess i will have an expensive paper wieght.

Am I the only one who wonders how some dealers survive given the lame things they do from time to time.
as an aside, I only got 2 black keys and 2 remotes , no grey valet key .... calling the dealer in the morning - thanks forum !!

Hey Nojooc ... I was careful with my comment by questioning 'SOME' dealers. As a member of the motor industry, I'm sure you would agree that 'Dealers are not all equal' - many provide the professionalism and integrity that anyone would respect whilst others tarnish the industry. I admit I'm probably a little intollerant but some of my experiences have created a very negative paradigm!
PS As my closest geographic forum member, I'm still waiting to see you on the road - its got to happen soon!!

I know what some dealers a like and was only kidding. ![Smilie](https://www.rx8club.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Spare keys not being supplied at delivery, masking paint defects, not all accessories being fitted, these unfortunately are some of the occurences relating to a lack of customer service and focus.
I have worked for organisations who have mistreated customers so I can relate to your gripe.
I guess that's why along with real estate agents and lawyers, car salesmen are hanging off at the bottom of the food chain!

I'm flattered you didn't add my profession to the residents of the lowest rung of the chain ... whilst it was once a position of status, bankers are now quite dispised ....
Can you share with us where you work ..

He has a point too. Many people seem perfectly happy to rip off companies with bogus warranty claims, bodged up trade-ins, and general bullshit and dishonesty about using up one dealer when they know that they're going to buy off another etc.
A few weeks after selling me two cars he left the game, saying that after 38 years of it enough was enough! Pity, he was a decent guy.
I trudged around Perth for weeks before choosing my cars and was expecting the worst. I certainly did find that one area seemed to specialise in pushy arseholes. However, the general standard was refreshingly high compared to what I was expecting.
Oh, and to get on topic I got two black keys and a grey one too.

To be fair to the dealer they have been very professional and i would deal with them again (unlike some other Sydney Mazda dealers who i would not recommend). If the key didn't really turn up with the car then its not their fault.
