skc, he's talking about Mazda's special non-synthetic 5w-30 Rotary Oil. Available from dealers only.

Yeah - The stuff they recommend for pre-renesis engines.

Cheers,

ok, I was thinking of switching as well.

At my last service they used the Castrol product even though the rotary oil was available.

Really, Hymee -- you should know better! I reckon as a mod, you should have the resty of the week on half posts... and sit in the corner posting ' I will not start another oil thread... I will not start another oil thread..." :D

Well actually I did flirt with Castrol fully synthetic oil way back when, but that was mainly because it took Mazda a year to get us the proper stuff. Now I use it (the Mazda oil) because it costs the same. Enuff about oil though!

Oh i c. You did not get to Brighton at all. I thought you will go there and ask for info about the new flash.

Did you get a new flash from City Mazda then? Maybe you did n't

I'm due for a 20k service tomorrow at Artarmon Mazda (NSW) so I will see what happens about the flash then.

Not expecting much, last time I got a service there they didn't even give me the G flash even though it had been out for months...I ended up getting it for free up in QLD as part of my clogged catalytic converter saga.

Warning....On topic.

Got the new flash with my 20k service. Doesn't seem to burble anywhere near as much as before on the overrun. We'll see how it goes over the next few days....colder mornings, etc. Drive impressions feel the same as the "F" same as the "G"...

Taka, bring Hymee's whosawhatsit over and we'll check the flash ID tonight.

I've often wondered what causes the burble. I heard something about the leading and trailing spark "swapping" over at idle or something like that. I also notice the spark advance is very erratic depending on throttle / movements.

It would be interesting to see if there was a different behavious in the spark advance logged between Gomez's "new" flash, and the the "G" in Taka's. The hard thing is to isolate the driving behaviour, and then reproduce it on both cars.

Cheers,
Hymee.

Got my car back from Artarmon Mazda and they confirmed that an ECU upgrade was performed. Of course they could not tell me the revision though, I received a blank stare.
Havent driven it enough yet to tell any difference. I hope I have not lost the Hymee burble!!

OT-
I'd love to get my car serviced up in Bris with your dealer hymee - my 20k service cost ~$350 . Holy crap I have just re-read this thread and there are wildly varying 20k service charges. How can they get away with charging double that of other dealers.

Heres my full breakdown FYI:
labour 177
parts 83 (oil, filter, sump plug)
fluids 42 (fuel cleaner, brake cleaner, rad/brake fluid)
enviro levy 15
GST 31

And I didn't even get a pollen filter change...<sob>

MUZZ

Cost of car servicing seems to be related to area of dealership and cost of their outgoings , but $350.00 for a 20,000 km service seems absurd when i paid around $158 .00 here on the sunny Goldcoast .

Feel sorry for the city slickers living the vida loca in the big smoke

cheers

That makes for an expensive oil filter and sump plug and oil!

What is the bet that the enviro levy is $10 each and they charged you for 1.5 of them? I got charged for 1.5 workshop consumables one time!

Cheers,
Hymee.

Muzz, your post gave me a good idea. I've started a new thread for scheduled servicing costs/comments.

That gave us something to do this Sunday (even better on Friday night, or Sat night if you are free 'Mez ~ I will be at Balwyn). Two RP shifter, one driver, with only diff being G and H flash. If you are available Gomez, we can present the result on Sunday's meet. Take only 20 min of our time... what do you think?

Artarmon mazda always overcharges, and add stuff in there that you don't want. When my company was footing the bill for my servicing, i used to tell the service guy NOT to change the windscreen wipers nor fill the washer tank etc... but they always did it and charged me for it. Put it in writing once and it still got done.

I'm up for my 1k service soon. Taking it to John Newell. Will see if they re-flash my 8. Shall I ask for the "Wildcard flash" ? :P

My 8's in service now. Has been for a few days. Took a look this morning and virtually all my interior was sitting outside the car And all just for the reflash... just kidding!

They are actually trying to chase down all the rattles and find out why it feels & sounds like a 10 year old Daewoo.

Hopefully tonight when I pick it up it will be reflashed and rattle free

Fingers crossed.
