New Tyres
I was offered a set of 4 Pirelli P6's 235-40-R18's for $ 350 each, has anyone got any knowledge of their performance or are they not up to what the RX8 needs ?
I can get Potenza's for $ 470 ea.
Everyones thoughts please.

Laurence congrats on your 100th post! I got my Maxxis fitted, balanced, Nitrogen filled and a 4 x wheel alignment for $850. They're quiet, grip well in the wet and rate for all round driving. I'm pretty sure mdr bought his Corsas which have the same benefits for around $700.
Hindsight.....? I don't think they corner as well as my old OEMs (although they were as noisy as ****) and would probably spend the extra $$$ and go the Bridgestone Adrenalins which from memory were around $300 a pop.
In your case, I'd probably go the Pirellis. We use them on our company cars and while we don't get much mileage out of them, they sure do grip.
Everything is a trade off and you'll send yourself stir crazy going through all the options....at the end of the day it will be what you feel comfortable with in terms of reputation, recommendation and of course price.....

Hi rotalution,
was considering getting a set from tirerack as well. did they ship via air?
any issues with duties?
i've used the RE001. They are a pretty good tire which has lasted through a couple of track days. they do squirm and high psi is a good idea. quiet enough for daily driving but not quite at the level of the PS2 in the ride and comfort department.
when shopping for tires, always remember, there is only 4 things connecting you to the road and there is no such thing as a perfect all around tire.
cheers,
R

well.. only 5 days for shipping.. i am guessing is by air.. the day i transferred money from my bank in the afternoon.. i received the shipping confirmation request on the same nite around 2AM ..so.. strangely the fund xfer quite fast..
in terms of duty.. my knowledge is below 1k AUD is tax free, but i also remember i read some where goods from US is tax free in certain categlory.. confirmation is required.. and if anybody knows.. pls tell me, as I only shipped two tyres..
i previously used OEM tyres.. they are surprisingly good in both dry and rain for street but durability in terms of overheating on track is not good.. I am using S03s now... u can only time attack on these tyres for the first 2 - 3 laps.. and grip and side wall strength is not so good..maybe little bit better then 040.. or maybe on par.. just different character..
just had these 01R fitted not long ago.. the turn in.. and mid corner feed back is totally different world.. havent test the grip and heat range yet.. i am guessing the side wall is much stronger.. and i also went from -1 to -1.9 camber.. castor from 8.x to 7.x .. neutral toe to now toe in. Pending on coming track day .. ~ cant wait !

I run Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1. Bought two sets when they were on special at $128. TireRack tests show it to be gripper than RE01R with better steering response. Rides a bit rougher though. Couldn't be happier. Car has a load of grip and tyre wear is excellent.
Tire Rack charge about $US110 to ship a tyre to Australia and Banks charge about 21 dollars for the currency conversion. Works out cheaper to import tyres than buy them here in Australia.

Andy is correct. If the SHIPPED value in AUD is < $1000 then you pay no duties or GST. There are certain categories where the Duites are reduced or removed (NOT The GST) but from memory (9 months ago) this doesnt include tyres.
I would also be sure to ask them what the manufacture date is of the tyres.
I think it works out to be cheaper to ship everything from O/S than buy in Aus. SUX!

Tirerack tests ?I read that test too but I would try a product myself and see which one is better if the product cycle is within my change tyres period. I would also base my decision on driver's comment in regards to these tyres.. specially those with similar layout and power output as our car. Seriously i wouldnt trust those commericial review. But no doubt they are both excellent tyres.
