These wheels are offered in Face 2(F) and 3(R) where Face 3 has more flex on it spokes. I was even considering 9.5 all around as I liked the look of Face 3 but had to stop and think for a second about stress on front suspension etc. So all up the choice was made based on aesthetics in mind rather than performance thus staggered. If it weren't, I would've went with a 18x8.5 +33 at all 4.

Just remember: staggered with more rubber at the rear...and with no compensating suspension mods...will increase the car's tendency to understeer. Of course, if you are planning to go FI, power can compensate

 

Timbo, I've been thinking about your comment for a while.

I'm running wider wheels but same tyres as the front (245/40). Would anyone know wat the effect would be besides what I already know (which is stiffer tyre wall due to wider tyre same profile)?

I should have the suspension done by this weekend. I noted someone said the RX8's suspension is very different (in terms of adjustment)? And a reputable suspension man would be handy? Revolver, or others, can you recommend me? (Syd)

 

What are the disadvantages of using an 18 x 7.5 setup all round?

 

I love the look! from the second I view these wheels I thought they would look good on the 8 and your car is proof.

stretching tyres changes the contact patch slightly. is it bad? and which way? I don't know. you have different offsets and rim widths front and rear, which I reckon has more effect than the stretching effect between 8.5 and 9.5. as long as your happy with the handling I wouldn't worry.

pro's: less weight (maybe, if you buy quality rims; **** ones will weigh more even if they are smaller)

cons: limited to std width or smaller tyres (same contact patch, different shape) with the std 225's you might not notice a difference. with 235, 245 more side wall bulge and tyre movement. wheels will look further under the car which dosn't look good. if you widen the offset to compensate you will get nervous handling on rough roads.

 

I'm looking to get some Volk Te37's that are 18 x 8.5 and an offset between 38 - 48.

That way, I wont have to muck around with fender rolling and stuff. probably get closer to the 48s

 

I run 9" at 38+ all round and haven't had them rub. the front sticks out a tad from the fenders depending on how you measure it with the camber. you will be fine with any offset in that range for 8.5". lower offsets numbers supposedly give more steering feedback which might be good on smooth roads but I feel every deviation on rough country roads and need to pay attention or it feels like it might tram track off the road.

 

What rims are you running rotarenvy?

Very sexy, how much did you pay for them and where abouts did you get them?

 

DREW: I advise you go for 8.5 in a 38 offset. That's if you do end up getting those rims. Taka runs a +32 and there's no fender problems, but then you need to consider the aggessive camber hes got.

I wouldn't go down to 7.5's cause looks is one thing, and 2ndly your losing grip. What rims are you using at the moment that's 7.5? Got pics?

With staggered, I think I'd lose a little balance but more grip, but also I gain in looks, with aggressive offset.

Thanks for the comments guys, I'll try to post pics once suspension is in. I have no clue what suspension setup I want, I might start aggressive and work my way down to something comfortable. Anyone wanna chime in as to what I should do?

 

rotarenvy: Good question, what is the effect of stretched tyres? I've heard it gives u more stiffness in the sidewalls? Perhaps the longevity of the tire is reduced?

I would normally recommend my local suspension shop at Brookvale but having recently discovered that they may have mis-aligned my sways when fitting my MS shocks and springs, I myself am now looking to try elsewhere.

Let me know if you find somewhere reputable and any other Sydney-siders feel free to recommend someone you trust with your suspension needs.

 

You didn't happen to weigh those wheels before you put them on, did you? I have been searching for the weight of the 57Maximums, yet have come up with nothing. I am strongly considering getting the white 57Maximums for my whitewater pearl, and have been curious about the weight. therpmstore is selling the 57Fs at quite a deal right now, and I may go with gunmetal 57Fs instead if the weight difference is significant. Either way, those wheels look great!

Revolver: The mech I went to charged $180 for 4 hrs of labour including getting ride height correct. I wouldn't recommend though unless you were up for a bargain. Most places charge 400 mark I think. BEL garage I hear do a rather decent job ($).

The maximum's aren't the lightest wheels nor the dearest. But at 8kg vs. 11kg(stock), its pretty good value I think. White on white would look absolutely stunning. But then, I'd love some 57F's as well if I had the money.
