News on RX7
Found this brief article in Motor trend future models RE:2007 Mazda RX-7:
If the RX-8 is the success Mazda is banking on, there was hope a two-door RX-7 may follow for 2006. On the drawing board is a shortened, lighter car boasting 280-330 hp. A convertible model could have followed for 2007 to compete with the Nissan 350Z and squeeze more model variants from the RX-8 platform. However, latest insider info has this anticipated model killed.
Has anyone heard anything else ????
cheers

Unfortunately no. I read basically the same news somewhere a few weeks ago. ![Frown](https://www.rx8club.com/images/smilies/frown.gif)
Still, you never know what variations they may be considering. I imagine that there must be several possible future directions under consideration.
They've run the MX5 line for a heck of a long time with a fairly modest update path, but I rather hope they take a more aggressive approach with the rotary line.
Maybe they'll pop in here and tell us what they'r up to. :D

Come to think of it....
I did hear a rumour that when they heard the news that the owners of certain yellow RX8s had expressed disappointment with certain aspects of their cars, the entire design team fell on their swords!

My understanding is that it's an "off-line" project. i.e. no guarantees of production. I did hear the other day that it was at the clay-modelling stage.
Power and weight speculation would be a fair way off I would guess, though if it's based off the RX-8 platform you could expect it to be lighter than the RX-8 and heavier than the NC MX-5 (<1000kg)
