[NSW] Sydney Cruise - 16 September - Wiseman's Ferry via the twisties

Okey Dokes - Before the glow wears off from our last fantastic Sydney cruise ( ), I thought we better keep the Sydney contingent's momentum going by organising another run.

There's been some chat about a few roads on the northside and how much fun they can be. Although some would prefer a midnight run, I believe such 'spirited' attacks are best left to solo or small numbers. The idea of a cruise is more meet 'n greet, explore some new roads in daylight (so you can see where you're going! ), compare mods and generally have fun (it's not ALL nanna driving, as those on the last run would attest).

EDIT:

Following some consultation, the plan is as follows:

Date: Saturday 16 September

Meet up: 10.30 in carpark behind BBQ's Galore, corner of Bridge and George in Hornsby for 11.00am sharp departure.

Route:

Out: Bridge Rd Hornsby – (turn right) Pacific Hwy – (turn left) Galston Rd – Mid Dural Rd – (turn right) Old Northern Rd to Wiseman's Ferry (Stop).

Back: Wiseman’s Ferry - Old Northern Rd – (turn right) Wiseman’s Ferry Rd - Cattai Rd – (turn left) Eldon St(at Pittown) - Old Pittown Rd – (turn left) Scheyville Rd – Dural Rd - Cattai Ridge Rd – (turn right) Old Northern Rd – (turn left) Mid-Dural Rd - Galston Rd – Pacific Hwy – (turn left) Bobbin Head Rd (stop) – Bobbin Head (Stop) – Bobbin Head Rd - MikeyR's place (directions to be provided at Bobbin Head).

General Plan: Do the first half, have lunch in the pub at Wiseman's Ferry, then do the second half, which includes the return route over Galston Rd (because it's fun ). We'll then head down the Pacific Hwy and regroup at the start of Bobbin Head Rd for a quick blat down to Bobbin Head (but will stop short of entering the National Park) and grab a coffee in the cafe down there. MikeyR has then invited us back to his joint in North Turramurra for 'refreshments' (thanks Mike! ). It's not a long run but the roads are interesting. Hopefully we don't get lost!

What to bring: CB's if you got 'em and Mike has indicated remote controlled cars will be welcome at his place. Mike, I'll contribute to the beer availability. Let us know if there's anything else you'd like us to contribute.

Some southsiders might prefer we went south for this one but the answer to that is in your hands - organise a run yourself and start a thread - it ain't rocket science. Alternatively, just enjoy the drive up to Hornsby and join us for what should be a fun day out.

BTW, although it's always great to see the usual suspects, these runs are a good opportunity to put some faces to avatars for newer forum members. Everyone's welcome - although the discussions in here might get a bit willing at times, you'll get nothing but smiles and good company on a cruise.

Attendees

Sounds good Dave.

I'd like to nominate 16th September or 30th September.

Unfortunately I wont be able to make it if the cruise is on 23rd September as I have to to fly out on the Monday that week for a rather important client meeting overseas.(M'sia)

We'll see how it is .. if that date suits more people then I'll probably give this one a miss.

The route to Wisemans Ferry sounds good - I enjoyed it the last time we went there.

Oooh. I'm in. Sounds like a good route.

The run down to wisemans on Old Northern Rd can be good if done eary enough.

I think 16th is good for me.
Have to double check with the events coordinator.

Thanks guys.

I can't do 30 September so that's out.

Let's plump for 16 September at this stage and leave 23rd as an option.

As for starting time, although I'm happy to get up at dawn (and with two young children, regularly do ( ), experience has shown that if we make it too early the numbers drop off. The young'uns like to sleep off their Friday nights.

As it's by no means a long run, I favour another 11.00am meetup time. Yes, it means we'll hit more traffic but that's Sydney for you.

Of course, if the majority want to start earlier, we'll reconsider that aspect of the plan.

I'm in, but remember that Kuringai chase is a national park and there is an entry fee unless you get there real early and beat the ranger or like me have a multientry sticker! (about $10)

It might make sense to go the other way and end up there last as an option. Good cafe for a coffee at Bobbin Head. (or my place for beers!)

Ahh, didn't know that. The latter suggestion is a good one (house party at Mike's place! ).

Well, the options are these:

Early start to beat the entry fees and get the best of the twisty roads;

OR

Reverse the route and perhaps meet up at Hornsby near the start of the Galston Rd instead.

What do you guys want to do - we need to bed this down asap so new arrivals can see it's a settled thing. I can then nominate a date and time.

Well, we'll see what everyone else says but I'm personally leaning towards starting at Hornsby at 11.00am on the 16th (can you make that Mike?) and leaving out the Chase part altogether (maybe just a run down Bobbin Head Road on our return for interest before heading to Mike's to annoy his neighbours. ).

What do the rest of you think about that?

Do it! Wouldn't be the same without the evil twin.

Besides, if we're gonna come to your place for 's it's probably only fair that you attend the cruise.

How about the Carpark behind BBQ's Galore, corner of Bridge and George in Hornsby. Not very elegant but plenty of parking and away from the centre of Hornsby. Sorry no coffee there....losing my touch! I'll investigate some places to park up for photo's on the route.

Mike

p.s. I'll lay in some salads and snags....least i won't have to drive home!!! LOL!!

Stealing an idea from our fellow Rx8ers from the deep south, suggest anyone with a remote control car or other brings em along, always wanted to have a drifting session in my neighbourhood!!

I'm okay with that. Beats fighting the Macca's hordes.

I'll give it another day or so to see if anyone else has any bright ideas but it's looking very much like an 11.00am kickoff at BBQ Galore, lunch at Wiseman's Ferry (can you buy something there? I didn't go on the last cruise there and haven't been up that way for ages), return to Bobbin Head Road for a quick blat down to the river and maybe a coffee and then on to Mike's for debrief, fun 'n games.

Any objections to the above, speak now or forever hold your piece.

Saturday the 16th seems to have the most takers thus far. I'll confirm by the end of the week - just want to give some others a chance to express their preferences.
