No more RX8

I ended up selling my RX8.
Looking around, I found a mint 2003 Evo 8 11kms, great price, perfect condition.
It might not be as sexy as my old RX8 but its a fantastic car, I have owned it for under a week, and I have already had 3-4 occasions where the 5 seats and the large boot have let me do things that I couldn't do in the RX8. When I get the roof racks, it will be perfect for the upcoming snow season!
Handling is out of this world, and I'm loving the torque of the turbo car, I didn't realise I missed it from my S15 so much Its so easy to drive, and its actually very easy to drive slowly, more so than the RX8 I think. Fuel consumption is HUGELY better, good stuff considering the car is so much faster than the RX8. Overall I love it, but I've always had a thing for the Evo's.
Unfortunatly every man and his dog seems to want a race with this car, I never got that with my RX8.... Oh well its funny to watch guys in Mivec mirages go screaming off into the distance Now I just gotta get it down to a track for a bit of fun.
Pity I found it so shortly after I had put the HKS exhaust on my RX. Oh well.

Take care of your RX8s everyone, I still can't wait to see them popping up with FI :D

DCD Signing out.

Thanks guys.
Yeah Evo is wonderful if you need a bigger car, but don't want to go into something thats too boring, or too big (holdens, fords etc..)
Great for me too as I enjoy the snow, so 4 wheel drive and being able to put racks on the car is great.
Taka whats the EXO 8??

Well, the Evo 8 has some great technology and by all reports more to come (450bhp in the UK, I recall). But, let's face it, it's a butt ugly car which struggles to differentiate itself in appearance from all the riced-up Lancer wannabes. Not my cup of tea (er, coffee) ... which reminds me I haven't had one yet, and that probably explains the tone of this post :o

I thought the evo was ugly until one of my wifes work mates traded his 2000 model WRX for the new Evo. I have to say in the metal I thought it looked good. Far better than pictures or video.

.... And boy it can certainly accelerate & corner. WOW!

Congrats, I can see you having a lot of fun in it.

Now if Hymee can only get our 8's moving that fast. How about it hymee you will perform us this little miracle wont you :D :D :D

it is meant to be funny... since the "Y" is 2 keys from the "I"... :p

The interior of the EVO is not luxourious enough. It is too race boyish for me.... when I hit mid life crisis then I will think about it :p

The EVO is awsome.. If i had more time to look around i might have went with the Evo. My cousin has (had one- he clipped a corner going to fast and ended up through a truck trailer).

They are not as good looking and nice as the RX8 though they are heaps more faster.. One of these days i might get sick of getting blown away by these 180's, 200 and plenty of v6's and get an evo :D

Regards
Phillip

Uh I agree the RX8 is a better looking car, but I think calling the Evo "butt ugly" is an overstatement. I think that it is a nice looking car, yet is very much a 4 door sedan. Comparing it to something like an RX8 in pure asthetic appeal is an exercise in absurdity. And it does look better in the metal, the muscular lines along the guards are hard to appreciate in a 2D picture, as they are reasonably subtle.

However in terms of real world practicallity for those of us who don't own two cars, its hard to beat, especially if you want an entertaining drive. It has a heap of power and can go round corners like nothing else I've driven. It has 4 doors (anyone who tries to say the RX8's suicide doors are just as good, needs to pull their head out of the RX8's exhaust pipe) seats 5, and a good sized boot. With the 4 wheel drive and the fact its not too low, its perfect for someone like me, who spends a lot of time up the mountian. Fuel consumption is great, I've been getting around 11.5-12L/100km where as with the RX8 I was getting up around 14-15.

Haa and for someone like me they are great because they actually respond well to mods, ohhhh I promised myself I wouldn't mod it for a while but the temptation is there...... Maybe I'll start small with a nicer gear ****, and a decent stereo then see how it goes from there (Both stock items are a little dissapointing ) the interior does have its good points though, I love the seats I used to slide all over he place in the RX8 seats :|

Anyway all in all I think its a better car for me, so thats that. If anyone else would like to come here and bitch about how my choice of car is "butt ugly" when I was just wishing you guys all the best with your great cars that I still love then I guess have at it. Different strokes for different folks etc etc. I suggest next time you see an EVO 8 on the road you take a good look at it as it accelerates away from you, I do like the look of the car from the rear personally.

Peace out everyone.

My wife's workmate who bought the evo is asking me to go one day for an early Sunday morning spirited drive around Arthurs Seat (some great driving roads for the non melbourne members) and I keep telling him sure if he does not mind always slowing down to wait for me. :o :o :o

No way will I be able to keep up with his evo around those roads.

DCD -- apologies if you took personal offence at me calling the Evo 8 butt ugly -- it's just my humble, personal opinion, and was provided in the context of a pre-caffeine state :o I did acknowledge the Evo's performance -- no question there. But this is the RX-8 forum and you should expect a robust and spirited defence of our on-going choice of ride. I guess the challenge you will now face is that, with the limited numbers produced, the Evo 8 forum is a pretty sparse virtual world

PS: IMHO, WRXs are butt ugly, too

Well we all have our own opinions, it just gets my goat when out of no where someone attacks for no real good reason. No one else felt the need to attack MY personal choice of ride., however ugly they might think it is
I hardly think I had a derogitory tone towards the RX8 I still love them and I think they are great cars, just not for me at this stage in my life
Anyway don't worry about it, I always detest internet pissing matches. No one wins and sooner or later it just degenerates into mindless drivel.
Its all good enjoy your RX8's guys

Mrs. Timbo will be very happy that he is very faithful with his love choices... :D

I do love an EVO... always wanted one. Modded EVO even look better, but I am not sure I will live with the turbo lag, being seen as a "riced" up Lancer, bus-like turning circle, and the massive premium from the insurance company.

Having said that... I love an EVO as my kid will sit better, I can bring my bicycle anywhere, and my car will be closer to my friend's R34 at Sandown.

Life is very fair - you win some, you lose some.

I have not checked my Powerball ticket - fingers crossed

The Evo may be butt ugly, but that doesn't stop me wanting to have one......... afterall, the GTR wouldn't be what you could consider a 'sexy' looking car either.

In fact, if I hadn't bought the 8, I would probably be driving a 'riced-out' Evo right now.

Just so you don't feel discriminated against, DCD, I think that new porsche on the other thread looks a bit shitty.

Cheers,
Hymee.

Hey DCD, I wasn't attacking you. I was simply expressing my personal opinion. I will defend to the death your right to buy and extoll the virtues/faults of whatever car you like ... and my equal right to do likewise... chill

Given my age and number of posts, think I might settle into the role of forum curmudgeon :o
