So they are changing the bottles to no Castrol label so you don't know where they are from? To be honest, it looks cheap when you label Mazda Rotary oil sticker to a Castrol bottle :p

I was at the dealer yesterday and they had a brochure promoting Castrol softec oil. Interestingly it had synthetic oil written on the brochure. I quizzed the clerk at the front desk on whether it was suitable for the rotary and his comment was that it was semi sinthetic.

If the clerk is correct then this contradicts Mazdas "official oil" theory.

I wonder if all dealers copply with Mazda guidelines.

I will be back at the dealer later to fix the cracked rear demister switch and I will investigate this matter further.

I thought I read somewhere Idemitsu produced it, but can't seem to find the website I read it on.
Idemitsu is the fill from the factory, apparently......

The stuff we buy here as Rotary Oil is Castrol. It's imported in bulk and decantered into 5ltr and 1ltr containers.

Guys i still believe using Mobil oil its still the best :p . I've been using mobil oil since 1988 believe or not A lot of oil companies like Castrol(if im not wrong) and the Japs brand dont manufacture their own oil . They ask other manufacturer to produce the oil on their own specs pack them under their own brand and sell it to you. Mobil its the first company in this world who produces first engine oil and also they are the one who invented synthetic oil . What do guys think about that huh?

ehh........... yeah you may be been using Mobil gold since 1988 but you own a rotary engine since 2004!

I love to have Redline for motor oil, I have expensive taste. . For me, snap my right hand with my left everytime I go and reach for a bottle of redline, and all my friends owning 147kW+ sports cars have a common believe:

Changing more frequent is better than using more expensive oil

So guess what oil my garage has?

Thanks for clearing that up Gomez.
So back to the thread, I guess nobody has dyno tested the different types of oil to see whether there were any power gains, but what about the butt dyno?

Has anybody noticed an appreciable increase (or decrease) in performance?
I know this will be controversial since changing your used oil for fresh oil should always yield a performance gain (arguably a placebo effect).

From my experience, I've been running Castrol Formula R 5W-30 (synthetic) since 1000km with it being changed every 5000km.

My car has now travelled over 10000kms and I have decided to switch to Mazda Rotary oil (mineral) just to be safe (for potential warranty claims).

I did the usual oil and filter change a couple of days ago and have covered 200kms since then.

Believe it or not, my butt dyno is registering a decrease in power and response down low since the change to genuine oil.

The engine just doesn't feel as responsive nor as grunty down low, however above 6k rpm, the engine certainly feels more free and smoother.

My theory behind this is perhaps the gain up high is due to the mineral based oil burning better?

Any expert on this topic feel free to refute my theory since this is only a guesstimate.

Anyone else experience a noticeable change in performance with the changing of oil?
