I did a bit of an experiment with checking the oil level & checked it every minute for 5 mins after turning off. I found the level read the same each time & was still the same after letting stand for an hour. So why the exact 5 min wait period??

Also, I let my oil run down to within 3mm of the low mark on the dipstick. Taking that there is 1.7Litres from low to high mark - I added 1.3L & substantially overfilled the motor. I then dropped about 400 - 500mls out & the level was smack on the high mark. Huhhh!!! Has anyone else had similar experience??

I've certainly noticed the "same level no matter how long you wait to check the oil" thing. As to the other, I've not let the level get that low, simply because there is not all that much capacity in the sump

About 5-6mm below the mark only takes ~125-150mL to bring it back, in my experience. With ~25,000km on the clock, I only check mine every 2-3 weeks. Like Timbo, I don't let it get down very far. I think unless you do track work like Taka, the oil consumption is very modest for day-to-day driving.

interesting, last time I check was in the 1-2mm above the L mark and I add 400ml increments, then I think only a Litre and a bit more to get to H mark

That depends on whether or not your definition of "day to day driving" includes no redlines, the occasional redlines or plenty of redlines :D

After 11,000 km's I've fed mine around 2.5L of oil, and that doesn't include a service in the middle, where the oil was replaced. I also have plenty of short trips and I'm pretty sure that contributes to the consumption.

The amount of oil that is needed to fill is not linear (e.g. you don't need twice as much oil to top up from 10mm below H as you when you top up from 5mm below high. I check mine every second or third fill and top it up with 400mls if it looks like it's dropped 5mm below high. That seems to bring it right to the top or just below - and I've yet to overfill.
