WD knew him quite well was really sad he called me yesterday after a mate told him of the crash.

His number was up and he was needed somewhere else, he died doing what he loved and he was a great bloke.

Sorta puts things in perspective really huh. All the bickering and crap on here at times is really tant amount to nothing in the greater scheme of things.

As someone else has said, treasure today as you may not get a tomorrow.

RIP Brockie, RIP Possum Bourne, Legends of our time. They left the world a better place.

The hit was directly to the drivers door. The first guy on the scene was there in seconds and reported that Peter died on impact.

Although it may not have helped much given the apparent severity of the impact, it doesn't look to me that the car had a full roll cage.

I wonder how long it'll be before they make them mandatory for these tarmac rally events?

The car was a built using a full space frame, so the whole car is the cage.

A mate of mine has the same car and they are very strong. The cars are built in Melbourne by the guy that owns Motec.

FIA approved roll cages are mandatory in tarmac rallies.

I have been building up my FD for these events but after this im having second thoughts. These events are much more dangerous than circuit racing.

It looked like a direct impact on the driver's side. Doubtful anything better in terms of construction could have prevented the tragedy. And yes, Glenn...you are right...those tarmac rallies are much more dangerous than people imagine; no sand traps or tyre walls

Seems like the death of Brock has put the moccas on tarmac rallies. There are calls to ban them altogether.... People will die on the roads in a rally or pretending they are in a rally.

The cars cage would have had to meet regs as others have said, however when a car stops that quickly we don't, you only have to be going 90kph and come to a sudden stop and deceleration injuries are catastrophic....

WD has had a few calls from drivers whose cars he;s modding at the moment. One has said, if PB has died doing this what hope have we got! Food for thought.

My idea is though, when your number comes up in the big bingo game of life leave the place better than when you arrived.

Hope that some younger lunatic drivers think twice before they try to emmulate their idols. Idols die too.

It'll be a sad day for rally fans if the event is halted altogether .. it is by far the most exciting motor sport to watch on telly! (for me, atleast)

I'm not ruling out lack of preparation as a finding by the coroner. PB didn't do a recce, so it was his first time into a series of corners that has claimed many lives.

You'd have to have a good hard look at the pace notes too. He was a gun driver, but if you go in too hot....well, the rules of physics take over.

I think Gomez makes a sound point about preparation.

Perhaps the answer is to insist on a recce and an audit of pace notes, even if you're a driving legend.
