Oz Prices
Here are the official prices without dealer or statutory charges.
RX-8 6MT-base=$56,170
-w/leather pack=$62,610
RX-8 4AT-base=$57,000
-w/leather pack=$63,100
see my other post to see what the leather pack includes.
No models will have heated seats or moonroof as they were seen as impractical and that they removed space (moonroof). I've contacted Mazda Aus. and that's what they told me, I wasn't crazy about the seats anyway, but the moonroof would have been cool, might have to import one from japan!

no moonroof suits me... I'm too tall for the 200SX Spec R as the moonroof intrudes 2" into the cabin...
That's HELMET SPACE!!!!
So, Tommo.....
I guess it's just you and me from OZ in here huh?

yep
Yeah, I think it's just the two of us. I guess your reasonably tall, so a moonroof is a comfort thing, but for my short family, of which I am the tallest, that isn't a factor. But, knowing my dad, he'll just say oh well and get one without, but damnit! I'm gonna be driving this car next year maybe and I want a damn moonroof! Life's to hard, I'm telling you. lol. By the way, I'd love to get a phase 3 going in the NT, but I'm 15 so it's not quite a reality, plus cost of car! I read a review done by an Oz magazine in the 70's when it first rolled out of the Melbourne factory and they went from Melbourne to Albury(Albany maybe) in 2 hours, and the next day they had to get back in 1:55. Average speed would've been impressive, not having speed cameras must have been a godsent in that car! Maybe one day?:p

Nice price....
The prices look nice at the moment....but lets see how the additional charges hit us.
I've still got memories of a $100K RX-7 hitting our shores almost 10 years ago now and....well....no wonder the car was pulled from the Oz market through poor sales....honestly....I shudder to think what I could have purchased for that price.
I see the RX7 now sells for around 3,800,000 yen which just about equates to the same starting price as the 8.
If the 7 was priced equally so initially, there's a fair chance the car would still be on the market.

Not sure
I'm not 100% sure when the 8 will arrive, but there will be a model at the Melbourne Motor Show which I'm attending. I think I remember hearing May/June? We're going for the hero colour.

Spoke at length to Mazda yesterday...
HEAPS of pre-orders in.
The entire first shipment has been pre-ordered, even before they start advertising in earnest.
All cars apart from demonstrators will go straight to a purchaser until about Feb 2004, so don't expect to go to a Mazda dealer and be able to choose your colour from the floor stock.
Date of delivery for first pre-orders is first week of July 2003.
Bring it on!
