I got 3 piece slotted DBA rotors with new pads for under $1000 fitted front and rear, the calipers were only $1,300 more, but I think $30 for a can of paint makes more sense for the calipers...hence I did not buy them.

Cromax, I am not sure there is anything more Ghetto than a badly damaged sports car driven by a young kid. "Drive it like you stole it" now that is Ghetto.

Much ado about something so trivial.

To paint or buy hmmmmm..... Whatever the choice it will be driven by either:
Need - do lot's of serious track work and a caliper upgrade makes sense
Bling factor - generally done when there is lot's of disposable income or no fiscal sense
Value judgement (cost vs ROI) - pretty much everyone else that doesn't fall into the above two drivers.

For all of the owners that are "value driven" painting your calipers cleans them up nicely and improves the appearance of your car. It will happily withstand day to day operating temperatures without discolouring but be aware that even though the caliper paint won't blister or flake off it still won't withstand a single track day without overheating and turning black in parts.

That's my nickels worth. Back to the Ghetto for me (LOL)

Oh, you mean my cup of coffee and a couple of slices of pain aux noix?

No, really it's Weet-bix and fruit followed by two poached eggs or eggs benedict a fried tomato and three breakfast sausages ... with a strong cup of black coffee and a couple of slices of nut bread.

I was told this by Mazda. As I see this now, they obviously wanted me to pay them to tint my windows. I can't remember how much they quoted me, but whatever it was, it was double what I'd be willing to pay!

I never really needed to tint them so I never looked into it. I will be rectifying this at a later stage though, possibly when I get some time to punch a few numbers to call the workshop at work for them to hook me up.

Reason: He has a warranty complaint due to brake dust building up on the brake pad ... or the brake pad glazing. Either way, he'll most likely want his dealer to fix it for him ... when arguing for such things it's easier to take the car back without any modifications done to the area in question.

If you don't see my point, you obviously don't argue for a living ... and if you were thinking about taking it up, I wouldn't quit your day job yet.

Perception is an interesting thing. Your mental image of me may be completely different to how others would consciously see me. No one really "knows" me on this forum yet in any case.

I think this is the first thread I've commented on other people's modifications Ez ... I like how you vastly over exaggerated your point to win kudos though. Unfortunately you can't back it up.

I have done it to two diferent RX8s, first time with a Duplo Caliper Kit with a brush! Second time with caliper spray paint. No doubt the first gave the best and most durable finish, no brush marks at all!! Less masking too, but hard to find. Both are pretty easy. If you buy a kit you will get a can of brake cleaner included, if you buy the spray can version (whatever brand) make sure you get the cleaner as well. Strips of the dust very quickly.

FIRST TIP
It does take a day and if fact it's better if your can start in the evening before and get the car stripped of wheels and pads and clean the calipers. Go have a beer about then, you'll need it.
Make sure you look at the clips on the pads carefully as you take them off, saves a lot of fiddling later, they only fit one way.

TIP TWO
While the first coat is drying go and clean your wheels. I gave mine a bloody good scrub and then applied some polish. Made them a lot easier to clean for about 6 months! stops some of the dust sticking.

If you can be bothered, Polak used to do some decals. Either to apply after or use as a stencil.

If I was looking at a warranty claim, I know it'd be easier to get it through if there wasn't cast iron evidence that I had f*cked around with said item.

Fix the pads....then paint the calipers.
