Please share your experience with Brisbane dealers

Hi Guys,

Just joined and I'm asking questions already
This looks like a great place .. plenty of great info.

I'm currently in the fortunate situation of considering an RX-8 as my company car. I've more or less settled on a specification I want, and I'm having a test drive on Monday. Then it's time to start shopping around for a good price and getting a feel for which dealers might be a better choice than others (irrespective of price).

Does anyone have any suggestions on which dealers I should consider?
Any general feedback on Brisbane dealers?

Here's the spec I've more or less settled on - if anyone has any suggestions/thoughts on this list it'd also be very much appreciated.
(the wording is just copied from mazda.com.au)
  • RX-8 with leather pack (Velocity Red with black leather)
  • Fender Strakes
  • Rotary Crest (Front)
  • Rotary Crest (Rear)
  • Carpet Floor Mats with RX-8 Logo
  • Power Window Switch (Aluminium Tone)
  • Aluminium Scuff Plates
  • Door Inner Protector (with RX-8 Logo)
  • Single-disc CD player (MP3 compatible)

Cheers

I like Grand Prix and Centenary Mazda... Service at both dealers is good and prices are reasonable. Neither dealer plays that silly "I need to check with the manager" game - at least when I have dealt with them.

Had more than one bad experience with another dealer and will never return.. I can't comment on the Southside dealer as I have never had dealings with them..

Good luck - you have made a great choice..

Grand Prix Mazda - Always had good customer service and good car servicing.

Consider buying the accessories separate and then having them fitted or else you may end up paying the luxury car tax on them.

Thanks guys, much appreciated.

I've just arrived home after a visit to Grand Prix, and I have to say I was pretty impressed ... seemed friendly, no bullshit. No real hard sell.

I have to say I'm now hooked on the new limited edition Revelation. It's gorgeous.

Specs of desire updated to:
  • RX-8 Revelation (Copper Red)
  • Fender Strakes (chrome)
  • Carpet Floor Mats with RX-8 Logo
  • Single-disc CD player (MP3 compatible)

I'm now unsure about the rotary crests. I think it would like nice on the back, but I'm not sure about the front.

Good advice...

BTW Welcome Gibbon,

Buy the car bone stock and put them in a week later. Even window tinting...

Or you may get them fitted for free.

There are many things other than fender strakes..... to decorate this area... hints *click on the car and get to the external mods....

Thanks

Makes a lot of sense, but the way our company cars are purchased might stop me from being able to do it that way. I'll check it out.

I've been sitting here for the last hour or so looking at photos of the Revelation. I think I'm sold I actually like the look of it without any external extras, might even ditch the rotary crests - though I think I'll defintiely get the fender strakes, those grills look a bit plain.

I'm not a fan of the body kit, sorry :/

Welcome...and glad you like the 8.

Normally, it is sensible to buy the add-ons after the car, as otherwise you just pay additional Luxury Car Tax on them, but I can see that may not work if it is a company car.

The crests -- front and rear -- set the car off nicely, IMO

Why the single CD? Yes, MP3 compatability, but really, you could save the money and get the stock 6 stack CD, and then add on a PIE adapter later, and connect an iPod....=much more music!

Good luck!

...oh, and let us know how you get on!

Hi Gibbon, Welcome to the forum. I purchased from Grand Prix Mazda. The service department have been good and cheap compared to others.

I have also heard good things about Centenary Mazda. In the end it comes down to pricing and locality.

Good luck with your purchase and we may hopfully see you at one of our cruises.

Thanks guys

Good point about connecting an ipod .. hmmm, might investigate that a bit further. If there's an adapter/dock that doesn't look like a half-assed add on, that might be the go.

Buying an ipod plus the adapter might well be cheaper too, how Mazda can justify charging $543 to change out the 6-disc CD player for a single disc MP3 compatible CD player is beyond me.

I've been ummming and ahhhing about the crests ... but I think I'll add them back to the list (this is fun )
  • RX-8 Revelation (Copper Red)
  • Fender Strakes
  • Carpet Floor Mats with RX-8 Logo
  • Front and rear rotary crests

Hi Gibbon
I bought mine from Grand Prix and also found their service really good. They don't bullshit and service costs are reasonable.
Don't go to Southside dealership, starts with Old ends in Mac. I found their service to be nonexistent.
Go the crests cause they set it off nicely. The strakes are good, I've got them but have a look at Taka's as they look equally good. Must make his car faster.
Wish you the best and like SKC said, see you at one of our cruises.

I bought from Grand Prix Mazda. However, we bought prior to release, so there was no bargaining. That seems to be a good price, although the car has been on the market 2 1/2 years. Grand Prix are fine, but they didn't do us any favours. Just remember in any buying situation (especially cars), the salesperson is not your friend (although he/she may appear friendly), and they are there to get you to part with as much money as they can persuade you.

Best of luck

Ive bought all my Mazda's over the years from Grand Prix. Mainly cause they are the most convenient to me. Servicing has been pretty good as well. Always got good pricing on the previous ones, but the RX-8 was new and in demand, so I got screwed in that regard.

Centenary guys seem fine, but I have only dealt with them when they buy catbacks off me. They always keep their current demo kitted out with one of my Stainless ones. So I'd recommend you go see Daniel and the boys and take their demo for a test drive :D

Cheers,
Hymee.

I bought from Eagers and it was a good experience. They were willing to negotiate on price and didn't stuff me around at all. I paid $57k for a leather pack + sunroof (that was in December)
Now that I have the car, I'm not all that impressed by their service dept though. For example, they insist that their castrol oil (which I believe is a synthetic blend) is genuine "Mazda RX8" oil even though I actually had a bottle of the genuine stuff in the boot which has "mineral" oil clearly marked on the front. I bought that oil through Centenary as they are closer to home for me and interestingly, as they were out of stock at the time, they had to order it in from Eagers!

Thanks again guys

I'm getting closer to being an owner I think ... and I'd definitely been keen to participate in some cruises.

Cheers,
Mat.
