Great post - the issue now is much clearer than before. Thx

Detox diet??? I never thrust the natropath, but I do believe in anti-oxidant to keep you healthy and reduce free oxygen radicals.

But I guess when you are talking about cleaning your bowel to increase health being... I guess it has similar concept in Chinese medicine. Lose all the "heat" from it...
I do believe those thing reduces fat being contact to the bowel surface, as high fat diet is known in the Western medicine to be a significant cause of colorectal cancers.
So I think detox diet will not increase your libido or strength but it does help a little here and there.

BTW, the detox diet will give you long stay in the toilet. I once finished the Motor magazine on a sachet of bowel detox. ~~~ I incidentally drank my wife's glass of water.

My 2 cents ...

Mazda recommends premium ULP

A Mazda tech guru I respect -- Jon Waterhouse says to use PULP, and he pulls down a lot of rotaries.

What's the situation if something happens to the engine, and you have lower RON fuel in the tank? A bun fight

I reckon this thread is like those early oil threads. Everyone is free to do what they would like with their car .. but be aware if the mfr makes a recommendation, you don't follow it, and something happens..

I got no valves! Where can I get some of that fuel cheap??!! Heaps of energy in toluene :D I think... I put some in my tank once. Not for Octane Rating, but for energy.

Well since my current dogs name is Brock Junior, and his predecesor (may he rest in peace) was Brock, then I need to interject! I think you will find Brocky never actually said there was any dirt in it. Maybe the clever marketing people made you think that. Brock is God. Any blasphemers will be banned! :D

It's all good, Labrat. I really liked your post. BTW - When are you coming to get that grill fitted from the very first batch??

Cheers,
Hymee.

Mazda says in my owner's manual: "You may use a regular unleaded fuel with Octane Rating from 87 to 90 (91 to 95 RON) but this will slightly reduce performance.".

They said I may, so I am :D.

Good point. I'll have to re-check what is in our manuals, if it is any different from the NA ones.

That is why I don't get hung up about oils - as long as they put one in that meets the specs and the services are done to the specs, then there isn't to much to worry about.

Cheers,
Hymee.

Hi Hymee. Actually in the commercial, God (Brock) reached down and grabbed a bunch of dirt and said I wouldn't put that in my car.

It's not only toluene and xylene that they (the refineries) boost the octane with. They also have the ability to produce and add "branched" hydrocarbons which have better anti-knock properties than straight chain hydrocarbons. The industry standard for the octane rating is not surprisingly iso-octane. The "iso" bit tells you it has a forked end or branch on the molecule. Fuel blending is quite an involved thing. I've heard that fuel delivered in summer has a higher boiling range than winter fuels, and that they can boost the cold-start characteristics by dissolving volatile butane gas in the fuel.

I don't think I'd run my car on pure toluene - is there some part of the engine that wouldn't like continued exposure to very high temperatures - edges of the ports, for instance?

I think is was something like the oil comes "Out of the ground, and into your car".

And Brock Commodores with polarizers in them are worth more than the ones without. So perhaps he wasn't so silly after all

Cheers,
Hymee.

He was silly, DON'T YOU WORRY ABOUT THAT!

The "programming" for the polariser consisted of a piece of paper that had the words "go fast, handle great" on it. They had Debbie Thiessen the HDT secretary shrink the paper down by reducing the photocopy 50 times until they had micro print. They then put a crystal in the box with the "program", and poured epoxy resin over the top! Stuck a shiny decal on the lid and VOILA, magic performance device.

******** :p .

Read "The rise and fall of Peter Brock" by Bill Tuckey and John Harvey....it's all in there.

Gomez.

I know they did nothing. I just said they are "valuable" on a Brock commodore if you can find one.

OK, that's it. 12 hr ban for you!

Cheers,
Hymee.

Edit: And I think the book was before he rose once again.

Maybe Hymee should release a polarizer for the 8 for his next Hymee product........... :D

I've clocked up over 20,000km of hassle free driving on regular so far.

Due to the combustion characteristics of the rotary engine they are not subject to octane ratings like a piston engine is. Many of you out there are already up to speed on that little fact.

For an "atmospheric" rotary runing it on 98-RON such as Optimax or Ultimate will just hurt your budget as you will not find any power advantage over regular 91-RON fuel.

Curtus Wright did octane vs power testing on there RC260 engines back in the 70's & found a less than 3hp difference whilst changing fuel from 87-105 octane. This was logged in a very technical description that took a couple of pages from this engineering book I have. They stated the only changes required where re-jetting of the carby (ah, the 70's) & that the engine ran perfectly from the min to the max.

This testing was for a USA military contract where fuel grades can vary depending on where the army was heading & Curtus Wright was showing the virtuies of the rotary for the generators they where suplying the army.

These octane changes would kill a piston engine every time. The lower end of the scale fuel would also kill a rotary engine whose compression has been artificially enhanced with a turbocharger.

Short version.......... Unless your running a turbo, use regular 91-RON. You will save money

Thanks DMRH ......... Do you use 91-RON in your rotaries?

I guess I can spend that $$$$ I've been saving for a new engine because I've been using Shell 87 (USA: R+M/2) octane. :D
