re: creaking noise

Hi Guys,

When I corner in the car at any anything more than about 20km/ph I hear a "creaking" noise coming either from the dash, or maybe the center console.

Has anyone else experienced this? I had excpected a car at this price point not to have any creaks, squeaks or rattles.

I asked the dealer to look into it at the last service and didn't get any response from them about it when I picked the car up.

Deano.

Smoothy had one and it was the bearings in the strut towers tops. Fixed (will be??) at Centenary apparently.

L&L had a rattle and it was change in the coin tray.

My seat had the squeak, and it was fixed at first service. Known TSB.

Your dealer should give you better feedback!

Cheers,
Hymee.

Its an interior noise - Pepe described this same problem - the car sounds like a "leaky boat" when I go around a corner. Its coming I think from the center console but I can't be sure.

I way less than 70kg give or take :D but the noise is coming from my seat too.

Took it to the dealer advised him of the noise and he suggested its the drivers seat. Will be fixed next service as i need the car to get around at the moment.

Regards
Phillip

My car is having the strut tower bearings replaced today. They are testing the car on a cold start tomorrow and hopefully this fixes the problem.
Centenary Mazda have been great to deal with on this issue. They have kept investigating and haven't just tried to sweep the issue under the carpet.
My loan car while the car is being investigated is a Mazda 6 so they are pretty good on that issue as well.

Better wait until we know about the problem - so I don't have to leave the car for a week.

Please tell us the detail of what happened rx8 - smooth! pls

Can you tell me what the symptoms of your problem were?

When the car goes around corners there is a creaking sound which appears to come from the steering column.

The problem is worse when the car is cold and when the car hits a mid corner bump. It has been hard for the dealer to get to the bottom of as it is only really loud first thing in the morning. The only problem is that once your ears are tuned in to that particular sound you hear it even when it is reasonably quiet.

Yes, that sounds like the same problem. Let me know what they find.

I'm the creaking king I swear...

First the seats, turning left, low speed, creaking out of the centre console area... this is apparently a known problem, they can fix it and I think it has something to do with lubricating the driver seat rails or something. (hasn't returned for me).

Various creaks from the back window and rear doors (still ongoing, ask for it to be fixed every service, they spray a bit of WD40 and it works for a few days)

Now I have a new one, after my last service when they fixed the recall heat sheild or whatever it was, the bit behind the steering wheel creaks, if I put pressure on the top or the bottom, it seems to disappear... grrrr...

Keep at the service department to fix them is my advice... Also, if you have time, get the Rotary mechanic to come with you for a short drive so you can get him to listen to the noises you hear, saves time describing them to the guy at the counter.

It seems to me the leather spec cars seem to make more of these noises?? Mine remains pretty quiet although there is a door rattle which seems to relate to the freestyle door locks. A bit of dry lube periodically seems to solve this/

I'm thinking about dropping mine in and just leaving it there until they fix it. The noise isn't loud, but it is so annoying!!

Have you guys had the seat mounts checked? Mine squeaked and they fixed it - a known TSB.

Mine had the exact same problem in the past so I printed out 20 pages of stuff from this site about the seat and also also a possibility of the steering wheel clock spring mechanism. Anyway they fixed the seat squeak and dismantled the steering column checked it and found nothing there...put it all back together and hey presto...noise has gone. The service manager (West End Mazda Parramatta...I think his name is Peter) thinks it may have been plastic rubbing...it only happened when cold.
Anyway...they admitted they did nothing specific but the noise is gone...so I'm a happy camper again.
Hope this helps. Ray

I had a look on mine noise over the weekend. It is the spring or something deep inside the seat. Not the joints outside!

I am sure it is a FAT alarm and I do my best to loose weight.

Taka,

You'd be best advised not to think (dream) of those exhaust promo girls and avoid the FAT in the first place. At least the leather seats are easier to clean the mess from.

Cheers,
Hymee

It is still creaking noise... I don't think it is the joints... could be the mounts of the rails to the car. but I fear it is in the cushion of the seat.

It is more of a rubbing noise. Maybe I find the mount and oil it tonight.

I also noticed a creaking noise today coming from the passenger seat. Also getting rattles from rear-left passenger door- Guess I'll get it checked on Monday when they do the 1000k service. Bit disapointing seeing as though the car is only 7 days old

I think rattle is a minor problem. I think the car creaks more when cold - when driving longer there is less creaking and gone when I have gone home.
