if you can hear the car creak, you're probably not driving it right - you'll find they all go away if you drive just that little bit harder - just think higher RPM's, and it will all seam normal.

frankly if I get the bugger ouf of 2nd gear I'm usually 60k+ over the speed limit and hitting the break in town - it's a curse!

Gomez - Thank you - It works! YE HA

The procedure is so simple it is unbelievable.

1) Put the seat back as far as it will go
2) Find the plastic piece that is covering the bolt at the front side of the drivers seat nearest the transmission. Pull it off to remove.
3) Loosen the bolt holding the seat to the chassis of the car.
4) Wiggle the seat about.
5) Tighten the bolt and replace the piece of plastic.

I got back in the car and the creak is gone!

Smoothy, I've had same problem with creaking noise. I first noticed it after +/- 700k's. It was not noticeable straight away.

I have a manual/lthr pack.

I mentioned it to the service guy at first service and when I was handed the keys and bill for oil, they said that they had not heard anything. This was just bullshit, as they obviously did not check, or most likely are aware that it is a known problem but could not be stuffed addressing then and there.

I had to keep moving due to time contraints, however, will be grilling them about it to check properly next visit.

i removed my seat to install the hook for the floor mats. they were hella tight !!! i think MAzda is tourqueing them down to much. this is causing them to crimp the plastic covers and thus drive you crazy ..

Had the rattles checked yesterday (Left rear door) and they finally were able to locate the fault- Seat belt tensioner/mechanism inside rear door- They have actually ordered a new one and will replace it- Anyone else had this issue?

I had the creaking noise from my seats as well. I removed the two front seat rail retaining bolts, sprayed some liquid grease (the stuff that leaves a residue of grease after the propellant has dried) between the floorpan and seat rail bracket and retightened the two bolts. No more noise! I think you will find this a better fix than just tightening the bolts as they are torqued very high from the factory already.

Talking Creaking noise

Hiya fellas,

Just to be another me too in this thread - I too have had an anoying creaking noise coming from somewhere around the drivers seat / console area for the past couple of months.

I took my car to the Mazda service center last week, but it was too hard to hear once the car had warmed up, so they asked me to leave it with them overnight so they could try it first thing on a cold morning.

I took it to them on Tuesday night and 2 days later, I still hadn't gotten my car back. After all the rain we had here on Wednesday (too much noise to hear it properly) and an unsuccessful attempt to fix the problem thursday, they informed me that this wasn't a problem they were aware of or had any information on and that they were calling in a Mazda rep to take a closer look.

After hunting around last night on the board, I found this extremely useful thread. Today I called them up and asked them to try loosening and re-tightening the bolts and voila! Squeaking noise gone away.

Needless to say I gave www.rx8club.com a huge plug on my way out. :p

Thanks a bunch guys! I only wish I had have looked here sooner - I could have fixed it myself :D

Cheers.

Ed

Its great. That is what all this forum stuff is about.

But can you imagine - walking in to the serice centre, and saying "these guys on the internet reckon you need to do this...". Can you guess the response?

Cheers,
Hymee.

Eduardo

I personally wouldnt leave my car with any dealer overnight unless it was a major problem , youare very trusting .

Maybe the rx8 club .com should be compulsory reading for mazda dealers/ service guys and mechanics , as we seem to know a hell lot more about the rx8 then they do , its sad but true .

Eduardo is a spanish name abla espanol ?

cheers

I figured it was locked in their service garage, so it didn't seem too risky. Then again, I don't know who would have to pay out if it went missing (and if my insurance company would make it difficult)...

I agree about compulsory reading. You could almost summarize this site into a book and sell it there is so much useful information on here.

I was rather hoping one of the service techs would pipe up and say 'Ahhh yeh I know that site! Wicked isnt it?' but alas it wasn't to be. At least they were nice enough to flash my ECU to the latest version before handing the car back.

As for Eduardo, unfortunately I've got about as much spanish in me as Jeremy Clarkson. Born in Winchester UK, Type 1 skin, you know the deal

Guess what I found:

I found the creaking noise do come back...

I use the plastic method and did not work. I simply crush the plastic washer. Now I have the metal washer. And make it tight - no creak yet.

I am sure it will come back.

Should I try to not overtighten it and put a plastic one in?

Before you agree with me I already doing it. Will let you know.

I have solved the problem with creaking chair. For me, it is the front left bolt.

2 things need to be noted:

1. Plastic washer is better than metal.
2. Do not tighten too hard.

Plastic washer I use is for garden hose. Try to use 5/8" or bigger.
Tighten it so not to squash them.

Then it is ok for good. Eventually :p

Edit: Fixed up point 2 "Not to tighten is hard"

Hi Guys,

I did the same, took all the info I could into the dealer. They pulled the seat out and followed the directions I got out of the forum. When I picked it up they told me that it hadn't fixed the problem, and Mazda Australia had told them *NOT* to start ripping the interior out to look for the noises. I've got to take the car back in August on a day when the rep from MA is in my home town for him to "test drive"

I've got sqeaks coming from the dash/steering, the drivers seat, and the drivers side door. They arn't real loud noises but very annoying for such an expensive car.

Is anyone else still having on-going issues with this?

Anyway they fixed the seat squeak and dismantled the steering column checked it and found nothing there...put it all back together and hey presto...noise has gone. The service manager (West End Mazda Parramatta...I think his name is Peter) thinks it may have been plastic rubbing...it only happened when cold.
Anyway...they admitted they did nothing specific but the noise is gone...so I'm a happy camper again.
Hope this helps. Ray

My seat is still squeaking like hell. And the people who follow these section of the forum, I even rounded the corners of the old bolt.

So NEW SOLUTION:

I am attempting to superglue a new hex nut to a washer then to a plastic tap washer: SO 1) it does not move about 2) harder for the plastic to wear out.

Coz what I found is when the plastic is worn off the squeak will come back.

Will keep in touch - if successful - it will become the perfect car for me personally At least it is a fat alarm no more :o
